I tested out Korean, it works.
Japanese characters and kana doesnt work.

This is a Bug. and it needs to be squashed!

In GW1 You can type japanese but in GW2 you cant because of this bug.
Is there any official words that’s going to address this issue? Please let me know.

I dont speak Korean.
I speak japanese and english!

Same problem here. I’d love to play with my Japanese friends while being able to communicate properly with them.

i wish they added cyrillic support…

The support is there, it’t just the font that’s not supporting it. The encoding is processed correctly. They just need to change the font.

I tired it many times with My IME. Nothing shows up nor does it translate English letters (when paired properly) into the right kana/kanji. If down the line I meet JP users… I’d love to communicate to them…I’m beginning to wonder if I need to move to an Asian world to do so much how GW 1 forced us to get out of American districts to do so. I do not want to Leave Tarnished Coast. This needs to be fixed so it works everywhere in game and also have us get guesting active so we do not need to move to another server to play with JP players (if necesary).

I had someone WHisper me ingame who is chineese and told me even he couldnt type hin chinese characters. Not sure if he has the U.S version of game or not though.

So I think this is probably effective the entire game’s servers.
i would like to know when this font issue is going to be adressed. I want to type japanese with my friends for communication. I like to improve my language as I play my game.

ArenaNet, can we please get a word for this?

yes when will this be addressed im Korean/Japanese kanji types fine but kana does not work as everybody mentioned, seems kind of racist i have to use romanji to talk to my Japanese friends kinda dumb.

Soo just now I got GW2’s Update patch, and still The Japanese Kana is broken?
It’s just a language font. Why hasn’t this been fixed?

This is what my subject is about. This is the “Content” I have presented.
It’s a direct question towards anyone in ArenaNet that may or may Not have the answer to. It would be nice to hear someone say something.

And that would be totally acceptable… =/
Because as of right now, I feel like This issue is being ignored. And this is minor.

I was going to post about this on the forum but I used the search button to find if there was already a similar thread…. and so here I am.

Anyway, as you can see from my username, not being able to write Japanese in the game while the Koreans are able to has been quite a nuisance when trying to communicate Japanese. Dear Anet, please include Japanese support in your future updates!

Yep. Would definitely want Japanese kana on one of my characters just to look cool.

I’d love to see Cyrillic support as well. Using English or transliteration when I run into people from my country is a bit awkward.

Bringing this post back from the dead because after so many months this bug is still here.

It’s still not working, and it does seem like a font issue. The support is already there. If it is a font issue, it would be very very quick to fix this bug.

I believe it is of knowledge of many players that the two Japanese language (???? don’t show up. Hiragana and Katakana are shown as blank spaces in the chat, although Chinese and Korean work on the chat (from what I’ve seen and heard or read about people using these alphabets ingame). I can’t seem to type in neither Katakana or Hiragana in the game chat. Any reason for this? Any solution? I searched around here and on google but could not really find a solution.

Can I get some feedback? Maybe some players that know how to use Japanese in-game? Because it is of my interest to do so.

i just tried it and couldn’t get any kana to show as well.they all show up as blank spaces

The font used by GW2 is missing Hiragana and Katakana characters. Unless there’s a way to use or override the font file used by GW2, I’m not sure if it can be fixed.

Russian Cyrillic does not work. Blank text that is invisible. It has long been known. ANET a reputation negatively. ANET not provide cultural language exists. Likely will not mend. Somewhere in 2-5 years will be available for all languages
