Kessex Hills map completion, no reward?
Content Designer
Have you previously completed Kessex Hills? New POIs were added during the living world stories, so it was possible to have the POI count display missing POIs, and hitting 100% on the map won’t reward you a second time.
Nope, completed it tonight. Prior to tonight it was at 98%. The last point was underwater if I recall correctly, under a destroyed structure. Was that the recently added poi?
Once they add new Waypoints or PoIs to a map, it will change from 100% to 99%, 98% or whatever it becomes.
And yes, that was added in the Tower of Nightmares release.
‘The Thunder Ridge Camp and Tower of Nightmares points of interest were added as part of the Tower of Nightmares release, which also moved the vista in Viathan Lake to a new location.’
Have you considered not doing this in future? Changing the number of points neeed for completion I mean? If you ever get 100% in a zone, it should stay 100% forever. If you add additional points later, just make them 103%, 105%, 107%, etc. Plenty of games offer “greater than 100% completion” when dealing with secret areas. Couldn’t you get something like 120% completion in SotN?

The downside to that idea is that while the ‘new’ 100% won’t give you another Reward, it’s necessary for World Completion.
Let’s say you’ve nearly got World Completion, but you’re missing a couple of POI’s because of Living Story changes or whatever. If all the maps still say 100% you’ll never find the missing POI.

What I’m saying is, content added post launch should not count towards world completion. I got it on one of my characters near launch, but why is it fair for someone starting now to need 20+ new PoIs to get World Completion? Just set WC as requiring the original objectives and no more. They can add new ones, and if people want to do them that’s fine, but they don’t be necessary for WC. Also, the map would say things like “97/115” if they added new objectives after launch, so you’d know that there would still be stuff to find even if you hit 100, but 100 is all you’d need for map complete, and all you’d need for world complete.

If that were the case, how does one know (if a new player, or even a new character that hasn’t been to that map for some time) which PoIs, Waypoints, Vistas, etc. count toward the original map completion, and which do not? You could conceivably do all available in the map before hitting the last one that counted. Or you might be lucky and hit only those that count. That might be vexing for some.
You could do like they did in GW1 – they all count, and there’s just extra that is available for discovery, whether per map or per continent/world. Whether old or new, the POI counts the same.
Personally, I’m happy with the way it is, though.

You currently DO have to hit every PoI, including the new ones, to get map completions, so it wouldn’t actually be increasing the ones you needed, it would actually be decreasing it in some cases. If you looked at a site that listed the “original” ones you could track them that way, if you got them all you’d be fine, or perhaps even ANet could add some new map icons, like when a PoI square goes from open to filled, a “Living World” PoI could be green instead of orange/brown. That would be a trivial artistic task, not sure how much effort it would take the coders to implement.

I completed it today got the reward.
