Average ping for me (in northern CA) to the game server for both GW1 and GW2 is now over 120ms, which has been on a steadly decline from 60-70 ms in 2011. It is at the point where it noticeably affects gameplay, even in PvE. I recall in better days ping time for me in GW1 was in the 70 ms range (not impressive either, but didn’t affect gameplay much).

Because there are so many variables involved with latency I can give Anet the benefit of the doubt that they aren’t just cutting bandwidth to save money. Maybe there is a configuration problem in the data center or there is bad routing between us. At the very least I would like Anet to look into this (if they weren’t aware), or otherwise provide their side of the story. I have at least isolated the GW1/GW2 servers from my end, I don’t have this problem with other servers. Even when I am pinging halfway around the world I get ~60 ms response.

Especially with an expansion pack on the horizon due to cause a resurgence in concurrent users, this is something that needs attention sooner than later.

Yeah i noticed some latency problems too and had them since start…they were rare and didn’t bother me much, but last couple of days i see bigger pins very often.
But when i see you having problems in Cali then it’s really no surprise that i got them here in Bosnia which no one would give a kitten anyway.

Actually the latency has been getting to the point of full screen character freezing then has erratic rubber banding afterwards. Pretty much kick starting around last month.

I’ve been getting this too. It’s very frustrating being in eotm and waiting for a wvw map queue, elastic banding all over the place and having laggy skills. Only to finally reach the commander who is on the other side of the map. and then screen freezes and game disconnects. I have to relog, run all the way back to commander in eotm if I even get the same map as I had before, and then start my wvw queue all over again.
This has been happening to this extreme for the last couple of days. It’s no longer playable for me and I used to have little to no lag before the march 16th patch.
very frustrated that they still havn’t fixed it despite the countless posts about it.

define normal…

The issue really isn’t latency, unless it is latency secondary to the servers getting thrashed and unable to respond effectively. Even in the 120ms range, the game should be pretty fluid and most definitely playable if the servers are responding correctly and have the resources to handle the load.

The stability patch is where the problem began, I am guessing either it was bad code (or good code that is doing too much due to poor design) or resources were redirected elsewhere.

The truth is, it is making the game unplayable in any circumstance where there are a lot of players on screen at the same time fighting (even PvE). Seems like around 40-50 people doing something at the same time and the game goes to crap.

I created this post because this is more a server resource issue than actual network latency…. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Game-Breaking-issue-WvW-Unplayable/first#post4947547

This is not just happening in wvw, this is occurring in pvp in terms of the actual 5v5 matches and in the mists itself. It also is happening in pve e.g. within the small 5 man dungeons.

Having a point in time where your character does nothing then having afterwards a catch-up period is very detrimental in those clutch moments.
