Launching game crashes computer
If he’s deleted the game once and redownloaded from scratch, you having another “copy” isn’t going to do anything different, it is just another login. And assuming he has tried the -repair command line option.
Before you get into the rest, try unplugging any extra junk he has plugged into the PC (USB ports and such), like cameras, LED lights, headphones, anything that isn’t the keyboard and mouse and isn’t needed to use the PC and see the Monitor, and try the game.
At this point, he is going to have to go through the standard computer debug tests. Scandisk on the hard drive to test for drive errors, update drivers (sound, video, etc), run windows update, try running something like memtest86 to check his memory.
It probably couldn’t hurt to also open up the case and clean it out with some compressed air in a can. Make sure the can stays upright, you don’t want condensation in the PC. You can also do this for laptops, just spray it in the vents, cat hair can do a lot of damage.
My odds would be on a bad hard drive sector, which a scan disk with all the options checked should be able to sort out (assuming the drive isn’t headed completely downhill). If you deleted the game and the drive was relatively full, the game would redownload to the same spot on the drive.
For more specific advice, give a bit more detailed description of “crashing his computer” and the type of computer he is running and the version of Windows.
No idea about the sudden system-crashing, but your spare version won’t do anything but give him a second account. The game client this version will download is still the same one, and if it really is causing the issue, all you’ll have achieved is wasting a serial code.
Just to give you a little warning, wouldn’t want you to waste a code for nothing.
That said, is this only happening with GW2 or other games as well? If it’s just GW2, no idea, but if it keeps happening no matter what he plays, it might be his power supply or video card.

What exactly does “crashing” mean ? If the computer restarts its either a blue-screen
or a problem with the power supply.
First thing is to deactivate automatic reboot on blue-screens.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
