Just finished the legendary spear, Kamohoali’i Kotaki. I had seen videos prior to me making it showing a shark attack animation on all crits while wielding the weapon. Here’s a really good video showing the effects.
Trying the same, I only got the animation to trigger on my spear skill #3 (the spear animation, not the shark animation inherent to the ranger class) and even then, only on some of the critical hits. In the video it appears to trigger on all of them. I get the shark projectile, but that’s about it.
Any chance the legendary effects may be conflicting with the inherent shark and jellyfish animations of the ranger’s spear attacks? Also, the aura that both the spear and the harpoon gun create (I have both of them) aren’t always present when either weapon is wielded.
I heard mesmer suffer from the same issue (few skill that can trigger it because few skill that actually use the spear as a way of attacking)). Are you sure it never works with 5, since the ranger obviously use the spear itself for that attack, not really sure it is supposed to work every single crit (some hits on that video doesn’t proc the shark). It not working on 2 & 4 is probably working as intended.
And yes the auras aren’t working properly for the three underwater legendaries.
Well while we’re fixing legendaries ArenaNet, why not make rangers and mesmers able to get the sexy shark animation on crit on Kamohoali’i Kotaki?

PPS: The autoattack chain should give the effect on crit for mesmer in all logic since it involves “Stabbing your foe.”. A direct hit with the weapon itself.
