When you are scaled down past a certain point, every time you “steal life” from an enemy you are actually giving the enemy health.

Well of Blood also heals enemies as well as allies.

The easiest way to test this out for yourself is to go to an area where you are downscaled pretty low and use a well of blood near an enemy that does not have full hp (with at least 15 points in your blood magic tree.)

If you are completely spec’d into the blood magic tree, and have the “Wells also siphon health from enemies” trait, you will notice that you heal the enemies for a LARGE amount of health each time the well pulses.

My autoattacks which are supposed to steal life actually just give the enemy health instead. Although I clearly outdamage the minor heal with the damage from the autoattack itself…. its still clearly in the wrong direction.

How has noone noticed this yet?

Also, this seems to be more noticeable the more scaled down you are (IE: 1-15 areas)

Huhu…. I’ve been using wells for a while now, and I haven’t noticed this. I saw mobs healing themselves but I saw no green numbers around them.

Wow! Do we have a skill that isn’t broken?

This world needs more people being frank and less people being offended.

Notes:

  • Bold means healing, normal means damage.
  • Tested with a lvl 80 fully exotic necro.
  • Vampiric vs Vampiric Rituals: vampiric also triggers when hitting normally, letting you know which is which.
  • The heal doesn’t seem to go higher than 12/pulse which is reached around level 15.
  • Vampiric Rituals is much more buggy, starting to heal monsters around level 45 and healing for up to 10 (which at level 2 is something like 15% of a monster’s health).
  • This bug doesn’t affect only wells, but since vampiric’s heal is low (2 at most) and normal attacks deal much higher damages it is barely noticeable.

Looking at Neck’s table, it looks like a good old signed integer issue.

This means that a numeric variable in the code can be both positive or negative, and the downscale code ends up reducing it so far rolls over from positive (doing damage) to negative (giving health).

This with the added insult of it apparently doing a better job at healing the mob than it ever did healing us.

We are getting “confirmed bugs” on posts that occurred a week after this, and still no recognition about this bug from Anet.
