It seems to work for me. You see the attunement icon above your bar after switching.

when switching from water to fire, the soothing mist from being in water attunement keeps getting re-applied until the water attune goes away. Earth would be easy to test too by watching your toughness when switching to Earth and seeing if it lasts 5 seconds after leaving earth.

- trait applies only 5 point minor traits from water and fire – don’t work with 5pts minors from earth and air.
- when u switch from earth to something other while having trait granting u more dmg in earth, that bonus is instantly lost (it’s just example, but it’s the same with all other traits)

so in general this trait just keeps icon from previous attunement for 5 sec – its sooo OP xD

From what i have heard, that skill was really strong in beta because it extended ALL traits (also the damage traits – that why they are so low by the way, because you could stack them using lingering elements). Right now the trait is doing nothing but extending soothing mist (and the previous attunement icon, thanks for pointing that out !). On a side note, this also extends the fire 5 minor, but as this trait is so utter pointless I wouldn’t really mention it here.

Edit: I am really interested when you will stop counting the days until you get a red response. I don’t even know if this is the correct forum for it because it is very likely working the way they wanted it to be, so it’s not “bugged” in that sense. Granted, the trait is rather pointless and needs some serious rework fast, but it’s not bugged.

This is a bug. If Arena net thinks that this trait works as designed, then the have to change it’s tooltip. The information on a tooltip is wrong in this case. Or they have to fix the design of this trait to make it do what the tooltip says.
Look at other bug threeads regarding traits. They answer them. But they totally ignore this one for one year.

From Lingering elements’ tooltip I understand that I should be able to cast fire spells for 5 seconds after switching from fire to water. I tried this in game and when I switch to water after fire all I can cast is water spells. I do not understand

Actually it is also bugging with earth:
When I swap from fire to earth I should be able to cast fire spells for 5 seconds in the earth attunement but I can only cast earth spells … I don’t get it

Attunement bonuses linger for five seconds. It doesn’t mean you can cast spells from one element while attuned to another.

But the description says so?
I just found two more bugs with lingering elements: the reverse of the two previous bugs I listed before.

  • When you swap from earth to fire you can not cast earth spells in fire for any amount of time.
  • When you swap from water to fire you can not cast earth spells in fire for any amount of time.

So in total we have four bugs for this trait. Woaw, I am puzzled

I found a new bug with Lingering elements:
When you switch from air to water you are supposed to be able to cast air spells in the water attunement for 5 seconds but I can only cast water spells for this duration. It looks like there is something wrong …

Why spamming this correct thread with incorrect bug descriptions, Zelyhn?

It’s correct, its bugged because most of the bonuses are not carried over to the next element. I can understand, that it would be to op if every they would stack(switching through all elements and then do enormous spike dmg).
But why don’t let them only get the bonuses from the last element without stacking? This trait isn’t nice at the moment (since release)…

I’ve made a list of bonuses, which i expect to work with this trait:
Fire 5, Flame Barrier: 20% chance to burn melee attackers while attuned to fire
Fire 10, Internal Fire: +10% damage while attuned to fire
Fire 20, One with Fire: Flame Barrier’s chance goes up the longer you are attuned to fire
Air 5, Zephyr’s Speed: Move 10% faster while attuned to air
Air 20, Air Training: +10% damage while attuned to air
Earth 5, Stone Flesh: +1 toughness per level while attuned to earth
Earth 20, Strength of Stone: +10% damage while attuned to stone
Water 5, Soothing Mist: Regenerate health while attuned to water
Water 10, Piercing Shards: Your spells deal 20% more damage to vulnerable foes while attuned to water

All the Damage boosts should NOT stack!

It’s not our job to think what to do with this trait. Our job is to make Arena net know about a critical bug that hasn’t been fixed since the release.

Arena Net ignores this thread, and other threads, concerning Linger Elements trait. I pay them for this game, I pay them for gems. So I want Arena net even answer me.

I wouldn’t be afraid of that, because all of our spells which can cause at least decent dmg are so slow-casting or hard to hit that most of those bonuses would run out before you land any of those spells

1) We have a trait and it’s description.
2) The description (tooltip) says one thing, and the result is different.

So it’s a bug. It doesn’t matter how Arena Net will fix it. They even can remove this trait and bring another one. It’s theit job. But the most terrifying thing is that all elementalists have this bug since the release and we never got respond from QA about it.

If I remember correctly, then this bug is present since beta, not since release. Like many other bugs our class have.
But fortunately, the strong 1 vs 1 staff bug was already removed

Let me be clear: I have been sarcastic in my posts here because I am frustrated and this is getting to the point I think it is a joke.

The only thing that is lingering is my frustration. My frustration, and the frustration of all other elementalists since release because since we bought the game this trait has never done what it is described or intended or admitted to do !!

It could be one of the coolest traits a “mage”-like class has ever seen. It could be the highlight of the elementalist, but instead it is a bloody joke !!

The only reason why they are not answering this thread is because they are very aware of what I am saying right now. I think they know how cool this trait could be, I think they have read the suggestions I have made about it, I think they want to do something about it but they just don’t want to tell us until they know exactly what.

I am not fine with this.

I would like a simple acknowledgement that this trait is neither working as intended nor is it working as described.

But at the same time I don’t want to insist too much on them fixing the trait because they may decide to discard it all together

Like for example with TA F/U path, instead of a fix they just dumped it and released something new and shiny.

I just love what lingering elements could be, I LOVE it. Please Anet I beg you like I have never begged any gaming company before, please make this trait as cool as it deserves to be!

Well, actually, this trait could be considered our second class-mechanic, like some other classes have. And it would even further rise the great complexity of our class, even rising the skill-ceiling, which any solid elementalist would like to see I guess.

I completely agree.

I have suggested many many times that lingering elements should work for all attunement bonuses and be made natural to the class (no trait required) for a shorter duration (2-3 seconds). The Arcana minor master trait (15 points) could then simply extend this duration by 3-4 seconds.

This would bring synergy and fun.
This would be in line with the theme of the elementalist.
This would increase the skill ceiling and increase build diversity.
This would be awesome.

I would just like to bump this to please at least fix it to work with the air and earth 5-point minors, if not the other “in X Attunement” bonuses as well.

From what I understand they purposefully broke this in beta and promised a replacement, but none has come for 1+ years. If there isn’t a replacement, at least partially un-break it.

Also if they fix this, it would be a nice time to remove the chill effect for attunements its sooo overpower against Eles and if they refuse why dont they apply it for weapon swapping as well? or allow us to swap weapons at least…

Hello developers yesterday I tried my awesome and favourite 0/30/25/0/15 spec and I appeared than lingering elements was doing nothing.

How is it possible that a trait has no effect ?
