bug reported this in-game, but hope for an explanation, MAYBE, here ;-)

initially, during the bwes, we could log in from the log-in screen as invisible, choosing to play solo with no one knowing we were on. you guys changed that so that we can only set our status to invisible ONCE we’re logged in, which provides a window for hurt feelings, a need to lie or prevaricate if we truly aren’t feeling social … what-have-you. however, today, as i’m in one of my less-social moods, i went this route and made it to the friend window, set myself to invisible, and went about pursuing the objectives i wanted to pursue.

lo and behold! a guildie whispered me! now, when i look on my guild screen, i don’t see myself as logged in; however, he let me know that he could. in the past, invisibility excluded being seen in any list, and it also excluded ability for people to whisper you.

is this a bug? is this something you’re changing, making this option ineffectual?

This indeed bothers me as well. As we “logged in first”, my friends have already seen me “logged in”. And then, I turn invisible after notifying them I’ve just logged in?? I can’t understand it.

You’re friends already know the moment you’re logged into the game if they have their friend list opened while you’re still in character selection screen. Anet need to change that so the online status count after you’re loaded into the world not before. Not sure if they can since this would also cause issue with guesting later on as you need to have your friend online in other world.

scmfxt, during the bw events, you actually chose to log in as invisible at the point you started the launcher, NOT when you were logged in but still in the character screen. they changed that, for some reason. and if it interferes with guesting; for the person who wishes to be invisible, it can be changed during game via the friends tab. if we want to enjoy the game without being “bugged” at some times, it’d be nice to be able to do it prior to actual log-in again.

it’d also be nice if it worked, again. ;-)

@Isende You’re right about being in the BWE. It was changed. So I would think they could add the option on the main login with a check box beneath login/password check boxes.

Well, even if invisibility works, you could still be seen running around. I was even added to a party while invisible. The concept kinda doesn’t work that well in a game like this.

And often they don’t think you’re trying to be invisible or anything. They just think the friend list/guild functions bugged out, as they often are.

being seen while running around i can take. intending to be invisible to my lists, and not being so? bit more difficult to take.
