Ok so I’ve been having a look and i think its something to do with the launcher working but it just isn’t being displayed as that is why one user found it worked by deleting a GFX file. also when you press tab a few times when it is in front and press enter i at least get a safari window that opens to guild wars forgot password page. this would suggest that the forgot password button on the login client is being pressed.

I’m now having this same issue. Is there any way you could share more details about this GFX fix? I’m trying everything I can. Was running through Lion’s Arch, saw the patch notice come through, logged out to download, and now nothing. Everything was working just fine before!

Looking at Reddit, lots of Mac users (all?) are unable to get the launcher to come up. None of the usual tricks are working at this point.

not sure if this is a bug or just stress on the servers from the update.
I’m playing on a mac
I was in-game, it said there was a patch and the game will reset in 1 hour.
I logged out and GW2 disapeared. I was expecting it to go to the login page where it downloads updates, but just nothing.
After waiting a few minutes, I force-quitted GW2, then tried to open it. Similarly, nothing appeared. computer says the application is open and running.
I restarted my computer, then tried to open GW2, and same thing.

dude, you’re right! when I select GW2, then tab and enter, things happen. 1 tab for ‘trouble logging in’ page, 2 tabs for quit, 3 tabs for ‘trouble logging in’ page, 4 tabs for quit. guess those are only options :P

The guild wars on mine will launch but, its empty. For example the guild wars 2 icon will bounce and open then that is it.

I’ve tried running repair. Failed.

I’ve tried reinstalling. Failed.

The symptom is that the game client and launcher windows are essentially not loading or not rendering. MAC OS thinks those windows are there but they are either entirely transparent and non-interactive or not rendering.

I’ve been having this problem on my desktop for over six months now and gotten nothing but ignored by support even when I raised a ticket because it still worked on my retina macbook pro. Now even my GW2 on my retina macbook pro is doing it, and so I can’t play the game.

Anet you can kiss any money from me goodbye until you fix this issue because otherwise I can’t play.

Edit: It’s fixed. Hotfix was released and it’s working just fine.

Go to your GW2 application. Right-click and choose “Show Package Contents”
Navigate Contents -> Resources -> transgaming -> c_drive -> GW2
Rename gw2.exe to oldgw2.exe
Rename gw2.tmp to gw2.exe.
Launch GW2.

The launcher will start and will begin the download. I’m downloading now.

Once the update is complete I will quit and relaunch to confirm whether this fix persists or not.

Thank you for this – the launcher is now working for me too and is downloading. I’m not quite in game yet, but I can’t imagine not being now we’ve passed this stage!

Regarding the display bug – this is separate from the bug that was discovered today with the patching of the 32-bit client.

The display bug is a longstanding bug in Cider where for whatever reason it fails to draw properly.

I’ve found that unplugging any additional displays usually gets it to behave. You can also just play the game with Wine which doesn’t have this bug.

I ran into this same issue on my macs, and can confirm that the short-term fix worked for me as well. Hopefully they will get it figured out asap or else we will all be once again out of luck as soon as the next hot fix goes out.

SHA-1 deprecation, so the fix should be pretty quick once it’s in.

Well they jut had a patch, but still does not seem to have fixed the issue.

This worked for me. The bug affected all three of my Macs of different versions and it worked for all of them.

Hey,
I’ve been trying to open GW today, but it won’t open at all, not even the launcher. I’ve tried to repair the client and restart every tiny thing i can think of, but still nothing. I have also tried to wait for 30 min already, as i read somewhere that for mac clients this sometimes helps (last resort for my naive self), but still nothing. The game icon is there on my doc, but thats it. this is the first time i’ve encountered this problem and it happened just as I wanted to see the new patch (witch sounds awesome btw!)

do w have to change the files back after the update though?

ANet GM says yes. It’s just a quick rename though. oldgw2.exe -> gw2.exe and done.

Edit: FYI, the latest build seems to have fixed the problem, so this workaround is no longer needed.

You seem to still need it to get the patch, because it does not appear to be working until I changed it

this issue is resolved in the first hotfix (released ~15m ago)

I used the work around posted yesterday. Game worked today, then crashed and now launcher no longer starts (again). Tried changing the work around back and no luck. Feel like I need to reinstall client.

I redownloaded the client. Still doesn’t work unless I manually open cider first.

I put in a ticket about this problem and they are looking at it. I’ll let u know too if they tell me something good.

Laptop working, desktop still not working – it won’t even launch.

I did what Blackwood said tuesday and it worked fine. But then I didn’t download the hotfix and today (I didn’t open the game since) the launcher doesn’t open again.

That is seriously puzzling. I’ve been playing these past days with no trouble. Patches download just fine; I did as described above.

Reinstalling it seems to work, the launcher opens. Now waiting all the day downloading…

None of this is working for me. I’ve been having the exact same problem described here but since HoT dropped last October. When I execute the fix above the client doesn’t even open. It is extremely frustrating.

I unfortunately seem to be getting it again, i was trying to get it set up with steam controller so i used nopatchui etc but it suddenly stopped working, so i first tried to remove everything extra i did and eventually tried a clean install, i can get it to show the installer of the installer but when the HOT themed login/ installer is supposed to show i get nothing, same symptoms as before
