I have the “Mad Memories Complete Edition” back item skin unlocked in my wardrobe but not the “Mad Memories” skin that was needed to create the complete edition.

The “Introducing the Wardrobe” page clearly says:

If you have an item that has gone through skin progression, like a legendary weapon or one of the Spinal Blade backpacks from the “Escape from Lion’s Arch” and “Battle for Lion’s Arch” releases, you will unlock all of the skins in that direct line of progression. That means that if you made Twilight, you will have access to both the Twilight and Dusk skins across your entire account. If you’ve created the Dynamic Tempered Spinal Blades, you’ll unlock that skin and all previous Spinal Blade skins.

Shouldn’t that count for the mad memories skins aswell?

If I remember correctly, Mad Memoires Complete wasn’t created in the same manner in which the Spinal Blades were upgraded or Twilight was created: The original item was never destroyed in the process and only required that you obtain it first to continue the mission to obtain the Complete Edition, so no, it didn’t go through the same progression.

Progression items all seem to use recipes that destroy the form preceding in the progression. That is why the skins of progression items are unlocked. No recipe was utilized in the creation of MMCE. I have both Mad Memories, because I kept them both (one in the Bank and one in inventory).

I believe mad memories was upgraded using a quest. So if you don’t have the non-fire book, it probably won’t unlock. I remember this, because I only had one character that was high enough level to get to where I needed to go for the complete version, my other characters had to deal with the non-fire version.

Unless Anet decides to go back and make a unique exception for this item that is.
