Mail system
I found the solution, it’s quite obvious, I had 9 emails in my inbox and thus could not receive any more, it would’ve been nice to get a warning the first time your email is (almost) full that you will not receive any new mails until you delete some. Might be obvious, but I’ve never played an MMO where you could only keep 9 ingame mails… So never thought that would be the problem
Thanks Himsa just what I need to know.
I had a friend send me some money and it didn’t arrive I was getting worried.
The bug remains. The mailbox should be full at 10/10. This bug prevents the “Full mailbox” tutorial tooltip from appearing, thus blocking an achievement (yes, there’s an achievement for having discovered all the tutorial tooltips).
Mailboxes were tweaked to have a 9-mail limit (reduces stress on the authentication servers, apparently). You can still unlock the full mailbox message, you just have to go through extra effort. (Empty the mail, have a friend start spamming you mail, start deleting it — some time between 9 and 19 messages, your hint will unlock.)
This game is so huge, that stuff like this is to be expected, but still, rather annoying…
Don’t care for the achievement, but the missing pop up should be fixed though…
My friend mailed me 7golds and I still haven’t received them we’re both 80, its been 1hours, any idea why?
If you have 10 or so emails from other players, you won’t get new emails.
Check and see if you can delete some email – not the stuff from the game, just from other players.
One thing to check is this: Is your inbox full? I wasn’t receiving messages from friends either, but thats because I hadn’t deleted any of my old messages and my inbox had filled up. (Mine stopped receiving messages even when the inbox said 9/10 too) Try deleting some old messages that you have received from other players and see if that helps :-)
edit, lol ninja’d :-)
There had been some change. Therefore the limit is either 9 or 10 private messages.
10 is the limit (there’s an achievement for reaching 10)
10 is the supposed limit, but on some characters it gets full at 9/10.
Hi,
friend of mine wanted to send me a mail with some crafting materials attached and the moment he sent it it the GW2 client hat a disconnect. (I was skyping with him, so I know it’s the same time). I was on an overflow server while this happened, while he was on the normal server.
Long story short; mail didn’t arrive, crafting materials gone.
Hello all.
My in game mail service seems to not be working anymore. Players cannot send me mails, guildies cannot send me crafting mats and niceties.
Worse than that is I still have not received my latest purchase from the Gem Store, a Dye Pack, which was bought with real money.
Anyone know anything about this or how to fix it?
Life is my story.
Be it giving it or taking it away.
Try deleting old mail. Your mail typically will show up once you delete enough of the old mail from players. I think the limit is 10 mail in your mail box from other players.

I would recommend deleting all your mails, there is a max limit of how many you can have. You should then get all your mails soon after.
Hey Katz? As embarrassing as it is to admit it but I never thought to try that and of course that worked nicely. I only had like 10 messages “saved” so I didn’t think it would be a big deal. Apparently there is a ‘max’ to how many you can keep.
Thank you very much.

Your mail box has a limit of 9 – 10 mail at one time (not including quest mail).
It’s most probably that you’ve gone over that limit, just delete 1 or 2 and it may appear.
There is also a bug that says you are at 9/10 mail, but wont let you get the tenth which is known to cause lots of confusion, try deleting a mail or 2 and see what happens. =]
So I made a set of level 75 medium magic find gear for my friend a couple of weeks ago and sent him 20 silver too through the mail system because he bought too many mats. He never got the mail though, so I wrote up a bug report in game and waited for a reply, but there hasn’t been one. Since it had been a while, and the mats were pretty cheap last week, I made him another set and sent it to him, making sure I sent it to the right account this time, as I wanted to make sure that wasn’t a mistake I made the first time. He still didn’t get the mail I sent him this weekend, so now I’m out 20 silver and 2 sets of magic find gear. It has been weeks since he asked for the gear, and this is getting to be a bit much of a wait. I get you guys are busy fixing other problems, but I would at least like to know what the status on my report is since it has been a couple of weeks now. Not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but it is getting pretty annoying not to be able to send mail
You say you’re unable to send mail. Did you try it with pure text messages? Did you try sending small amounts of money? (e.g. 1 copper)
Try to recreate when this occurs and how, then describe it to the developers. Otherwise it’s really hard to find out why it doesn’t work for you when it works for so many others.
My mail was working but yesterday I sent two messages with items to a friend. They never got the messages and we have tried sending messages with just text (no items or money) to each other and still haven’t received those either. On the bright side, I haven’t gotten any spam in awhile.
You can only have 9 – 10 mails in your mail box before new ones will not show. Try deleting some older mail (not quest mail) and you may just find the missing mail appears.
There is a bug that prevents the mail box from showing that it is full.
My husband and I are leveling together and working on separate professions, so he sends me ore and jewels for my Huntsman and Jewelcrafting, and in return I send him my leather and ingredients for his Leatherworker and Chef. We play together in the same room, so I see when he sends me stuff and visa versa.
15% (guess) of the time we do not receive the mail sent. I have witnessed MANY stacks of ore, as well as so many jewels that I need for leveling just disappear. All that time and lost gold/skill… it’s so annoying! I don’t know what to do. The game just isn’t fun when you have to worry if you wasted hours farming when you’re left empty handed.
This last time, he sent me like 40-50 Soft Wood, 40 gold ore, 60 platinum, 3 coral chunks and some other jewel. I was REALLY counting on that platinum.
Isn’t there something that can be done to prevent this? Is there a trade feature I’m just too blonde to not see? Because mail is so unreliable! Grr! -_-
I deleted mail, so I only have 3 at the moment and still nothing showing up.

Received every single mail up to now. Even the 7 yesterday with which a friend sent all of his gems to me (I’m the jeweler). Although he had to wait 2 minutes after sending before he could send another… some protection I guess.
@Junyper, i’ve had the exact same problem where 1.5g i sent to my friend never arrived:/ at this stage of the game 1.5g is a lot to most us who aren’t lvl 80 yet.
Just to update, my mail said 8/10 and I didn’t even know what that meant since I obviously had more than 8 or 10 messages (including quest mail). Started deleting messages from people and, lo and behold, started getting the spam messages that had been waiting for me. Don’t know why one of the first tutorials doesn’t explain this at all or why we can only keep 10 (maybe) messages from other people but at least I can keep my mail from Krug the Ettin.
