Memory Leak (reaching 10GB+)

Memory Leak (reaching 10GB+)

Back when using the 32bit GW2 client I used to always have a slow memory leak which would cause the program to crash once it reached the 32bit addressing limit. Ever since I’ve installed the 64bit client this same memory leak still exists only without the 32bit memory limit. Instead, GW2 eats up my 8 GB of physical ram and then happily eats up my 10GB swap on an SSD. The memory leak does seem to be directly correlated to players coming into vision. This is most pronounced at world bosses, meta events or WvW maps.

Restarting the client solves the problem however this completely destroys the gaming experience when you’re farming a map and loose all the map bonuses or when you’re on WvW with a large queue.

Restarting the client (or any other form of relogging) does not “lose map bonus”, though it does kick you out of queues. Your map bonus progress remains – though you would lose credit for an incomplete event.

Are you using any third party software, such as SweetFX, here? That might account for why you observe this leak, while I don’t, in similar configurations. If you do, try getting it out of the way and see if the problem continues.

Likewise, antivirus, etc, software would be worth investigating.

Finally, are you able to reduce or remove the impact by turning down the number of models, and high quality models, visible? That may help.
