[Merged] Can't sell my weapon skins
Way to go anet! Continuing to ignore this PR nightmare thread is totally the right way to go!
sweeps thread under a rock
I’m disappointed. I was going to save up for one of these skins for my blue sylvari.
Apparently the method I discussed earlier in this thread and in the other thread linked to is an “exploit.” Unbelievable. I had no idea that doing what I described was an “exploit.” Am I allowed to use other existing game features or will that be considered an exploit in the future too? Can I deposit items in my bank? Can I sort my inventory? Ridiculous.
If you don’t want people to use that method or sell certain skins (despite the fact that they’ve also supported ArenaNet) perhaps you should make it so you simply cannot sell any of the skins and stop promoting people getting rich off of a poor design decision and/or technical limitation. Period. Or come up with a legitimate method to allow people to trade skins that they bought before the August 20 update.
I’m normally on your side, ArenaNet, but the way this has been handled is just plain poor. Deleting my posts has just soured me even more on this matter.
The whole thing makes no sense, a skin is a skin, this is probably the only time in my history of 10 years of MMO’ing I’d encourage people to do it. And I am strict on following the rules, more than anyone probably.
Moreover, I have not seen anyone from Anet stating this is an exploit, and I cannot imagine they will as there is no way to enforce it (benefit < manpower). Never issue a warning you can’t enforce. The lawyers at Anet will know this adagium all too well.
For the record, I haven’t done this myself, but I may consider doing it in the future. An unused skin is an unused skin. The artificial distinction being created is beyond absurd.

I agree. I’m generally someone that’s incredibly strict when it comes to following the rules in online games. I refuse to exploit to beat bosses in dungeons/fractals and I intensely dislike other exploits, much to the annoyance of some fellow gamers.

Well, I didn’t actually receive a warning. My posts referencing the “exploit” were simply deleted along with other people’s. That was the reasoning given for the deletion even though it hasn’t been officially stated as being an exploit. On one hand, I can understand why it might be considered an exploit. It’s clearly a game bug. And yet at the same time it’s so stupidly easy to do and can even be done by mistake because it’s a game feature. And to make matters even more muddled, there are literally no differences in the descriptions of the items to suggest that they’re different. The only difference is one still has an account bound flag set and the other does not. The former doesn’t even say “account bound.”
It’s why I’ve stated that I’d like to see a developer supported method for updating existing skins rather than this, “sorry but you’re screwed if you decided to buy a skin before August 20” approach. It makes absolutely no sense.
For the record, I haven’t done this myself, but I may consider doing it in the future.
I admit that I’ve done this but it didn’t even occur to me that it might be an exploit. I simply wanted to sell the skin because it was just sitting in my bank and thought it’d be better in the hands of someone that actually wanted it. I did the same thing with WvW blueprints because it was more efficient than using and repacking over 100 of them.
An unused skin is an unused skin. The artificial distinction being created is beyond absurd.
Completely agreed.

It also seems like since there is no visible difference, perhaps they just overlooked something and are now attempting to cover it up as intentional instead of going back and fixing it. It’s kind of silly how readily they like to alienate small portions of their player base. I think they don’t realize that at the rate they are doing this a small portion is going to get a lot larger…
Vairrek (Spooty Necro Pug Extraordinaire)
The thing is; the npc was removed after molten facility… so it was like, buy your skin before you won’t be able to….
Now what’s the difference of someone who picked their skin and kept it in the bank, or someone who kept the ticket??? makes no sense at all.

There is no difference if there was the two items wouldn’t connect like some boss bags wont, so to me the new items are an exact match to the old ones, to consider this an exploit is a laugh, that is like saying anything that stacks is an exploit so everything in everyone’s banks are exploits…haha yea good luck with this Anet..
I will just find a new mmo this one is broken from the top down..
The bug is that the account bound flag is still set on the older versions of the skins. So technically, doing the thing I described and won’t mention is taking advantage of a bug. I still find the whole thing rather iffy, though. The items are identical except for this hidden flag that’s set. And saying this is intentional is just ridiculous.
The problem is, the person responding had no clue what he/she was talking about. I’ll break the response down for you
Only newly obtained skins…
The weapon skins on the TP are not “newly obtained”. They came from tickets rotting in a someone’s bank. They are no different than a skin rotting in someone’s bank.
… in select sets are tradable.
This is incorrect. It’s not “select sets”. It’s all sets. Sclerite, fused, jade, winter’s. This gave away Josh was used as a fall guy, he really didn’t know what he was talking about. He just communicated what someone emailed him.
In the past, we intended those skins to be account-bound and not tradable. After the change, these skins will remain account-bound and not tradable.
If that was indeed their intention, to keep fused/sclerite/jade/winter’s skins account bound, why are these skins on the TP in the first place? This message contradicts itself, and makes no sense to anyone reading it. It’s a cheap way of not fixing a clear mistake.

If the items were not the same thing they wouldn’t stack on top of each other as they are doing, they are identical..
Which begs the wonder why was my money (which i used a lot off to get these items not the same as customers money that they are using today to get these items).
Which is totally fine, because if my money is so different you wont be receiving another cent of it for as long as i play, good day..

Great post my thoughts exactly.. They don’t even seem to know what their left or right hand is doing 99% of the time..
Very poor business practices either way.

I bought TODAY a zodiac greatsword with the ticket (that I also got today) and I can’t sell it either…it isn’t account bound and I don’t have the option to sell it, oh but wait! i have the option to buy more at the trading post? doesn’t make sense.

This whole setup is insane ..
Dont tell me “Unfortunately, at this moment we do not have more information available about this particular topic. However, we frequently update our official website ( http://www.guildwars2.com ), and we encourage you to keep an eye on the site for announcements and updates about the game. ~Luis G.” when i cant find the updates in the wiki much less the link. we as players are told to go screw ourselves in this situation. how many more complaints before you actually fix it? well, let me tell you now Davis, ill keep complaining, you have screwed me out of 60-80 gold on a hypocritic basis of others who can sell their wares. every day i will readdress the issue. keep ignoring your players, thats how mmo’s die. dont play new content that involves a box/bag or the gemstore is what you are telling us BTW, cuz in the next patch you will screw us out of our time invested. also, is any of this on the User Terms and Agreement? they must be breaking their own rules somewhere….
May i request a Telephone number to Arena Net? i would love to be able to record a conversation of the “oh no sorry cant help you” and then send it to youtube. do u think once you are done with this, that we are too? thats not real smart man, im not done. Far from it.
I got so excited when i remembered i had a fused staff skin in my bank, that was not used, and then saw the amazing price of it on the trading post, and then to get karate kicked in the nuts, when i saw that i couldn’t sell it.
I have a Sclerite Shield skin that I can not sell. I don’t really use shields but at the time I got it it was the best looking skin in that set. It would be really nice if I could sell it and get back my wasted space. I also agree with that others. If you had no plans to make the old skins trade-able then you should not have changed the item description.
Come on guys calm down. There’s no need to give Josh all this hate. He’s Grouch (the PvP caster) and he just recently joined the Anet team. He has nothing to do with this issue.
wow this is a bummer I’m seriously sad by this. For a moment I was thinking “yes I can sell this one and get money for the precursor”…but no….
So basicly players that bought weapons skins during the event, afraid to not claim the ticket getting screwed now. Hope you guys will reconsider this! Because it doesnt feel that fair to me!
Any update on this issue? A definitive answer would be great. Josh or someone with an inside line at least give us this eg. – " Hai guys, sry for the delay, but NO, none of you will get what you want, everything will remain as it is, KthnxBai. See, now that way we can all just use the skin or whatever it is we choose and leave this thread with a sense of completion.
Well it was declared “not a bug” so I made a thread in the game discussion forum. But unfortunatly I feel not enough ppl have this issue for them to look into it anytime soon
You bought those skins without ever considering that they were going to be sold.
Exactly – and the skin said “Account Bound” when you made that purchase… so why so angry now?

Dissapointed. And, I bought them because tbh I didnt know if we could trade them after the events ended. I never wanted those weapons. If I could I would have given all the tickets away to guildies etc. So it’s not about being angry, it’s about not being able to sell them or give them away.
So we all got those items the same way, with the same ticket, from the same npc.
But if you redeemed it 1 day after patch you can sell it, and if you did 1 day before you can’t? Are you kidding us anet? Does this in all honesty make any sense to you?
The item doesn’t even say account bound or soulbound!
At least fix the description, for coherence sake!
Any real answer? This is complete BS. Finding it harder and harder to enjoy this game lately.

All here require some form of an answer. If its not going to happen, tell us so. We won’t bother feeding this thread. To make it less painful I’ll do this.
Type “1” – We will seek to rectify this issue in the future
or
Type “2” – We are happy with the current state of this.
Thank you
Absolute bull kitten.
I got a fused ticket, wasnt too bothered about the skin as I had a COF shield skin.
As you know storage is ridiculous because they are tight kittens who want to pin me on my back and milk my nipples.
So in order to clear up my bank, I used the skin on a random weapon on an alt that I had.
Now my skin is on my lvl 24 Warrior and I see everyone else is who saved the item now rich.
Ive logged in today to find my Jade Dragon Sceptre Skin [unused ans stashed in my bank for some time] is not tradable, yet not bound either, is this issue still outstanding?…..
I’m someone who doesnt mind spending gems to buy skins from the store everynow and then, even if those skins be a re-release of previous wepon skins whose tickets are no longer available. The main reason I dont mind this, is because I can trade my own earnt skins, or use gems, depending on where tp prices are at / my urge to obtain skins, etc.
Taking away the tradable aspect not only bottlenecks a method of making honest gold in-game, but really deters me in purchasing additional skins from the gem store, as I would rather trade one skin for a portion of gold towards buying another weapon skin from the TP that I prefer, or if the preferred weapon skin im trying to obtain is too high in TP gold price, then simply use the gem conversion equivalent to obtain the skin from the gem store / use my own funds for some gems to make the difference.
Its unfair that one player who earnt a ticket the same as me, and hasnt redeemed it, can have the opportunity to make a profit on the TP. I see no difference in an unused ticket and an unused skin, the result should still be a tradable item for the TP, regardless of time traded at a weapons specialist.
I understand decisions must be made regarding asthetics for the game, as they encourage us to put money into the game for that extra shiny look [i know i have and have been happy to support the game thus], but this is something I’ll be considering twice from now on, and definetly will not be going towards should weapon skin ticket re-releases occur, which im sure they would once a high enough demand was reached for those lucky few posted to the TP.
Ultimately, if skins [when tickets are traded for] are to be account bound, please make them account bound in title from now on to prevent confusion. I do not recall seeing any posts regarding account bound skins and this system regarding ticket trades being time limited for TP posting opportunity, perhaps I missed something.
Clearly one of the following options needs to be done:
1. Announce that skin trading is available, but shed some light on the time restrictions and select sets so we know what is tradable and what isnt. I feel this is unclear as I traded 6 Jade Dragon staff skins some time after the event ended for a cool 100g, but now find my Jade Dragon Sceptre skin [unused] worthless and untradable, with no account bound indication on the item even though its exact likeness is clearly listed on the Trading Post. Clearly something is yet to be finalised / explained here.
Or….
2. Announce that Skin trading cant be done for ticket obtained items, explain why not, as this seems unfortunate for friends being able to help each other out in a massive “multiplayer” game, make the items account bound, leave the ones that are on the TP there, mistakes happen, kudos to the lucky traders. There will at least be clarity to what can be traded regarding ticket skins, which is good news none the less.
Ive played gw2 for 1468hrs over the last 378 days as of now, and I’ve only now found an issue with the game that I dont think is quite right. Its an amazing game, whose positives far outweight such issues.
Further clarity / the current state of this issue would be appreciated. Thanks for reading this long winded post
How does that make any sense whatsoever? Are players supposed to rely on complete and utter guesswork to get anywhere in this game now?
You must be new here.
Only newly obtained skins in select sets are tradable. In the past, we intended those skins to be account-bound and not tradable. After the change, these skins will remain account-bound and not tradable. We will continue to monitor the value of those skins, but at this time, there is no plan to make tradability retroactive.
This is extremely disappointing, it makes no sense to me that just because I ‘redeemed’ my skin during the event months back gives me no possibility to sell it, while a person who either retained a ticket but didnt turn it in for a skin or acquired a ticket more recently has the option to do all that…
Anet at it’s best -.-
