Good Fights [GF] Mesmer
Mesmer Mimic Bugs
Good Fights [GF] Mesmer
- haven’t noticed this – rarely used skill for me; sounds like a bug
- that’s intended. The initial projectile attack fully hits you (and you copy it) and all following projectiles will be reflected/ other attacks will be deflected.
It’s unlikely that taking damage from the first attack is intentional. The tool tip would be worded something like “copy the next projectile attack to be redirected at a foe” instead of “absorb a projectile attack”. Absorbing it implies the attack should be neutralized.

Bump because it’s still not fixed. The tooltip underwater now reflects that it is a 1.5s channel, but why would an already weak skill need to be worse underwater?

The only real use of this skill was to mimic agony in high lvl fotm so that you could one shot certain things with the agony. That use was nerfed with the fotm update and the skill is now practically worthless.
You have to survive the attack you absorb, this is just how the skill works without the ability to mimic agony the skill has almost no practical use.
Idk what you’d really want to absorb while underwater so that bug probably has low priority.

Regardless of popular use the skill should still work. Nowhere was it clarified that you’re supposed to take damage from the absorbed skill. If taking damage from the first projectile that hits you is intended it should say “copy the next projectile” instead of “absorb a projectile”. How hard can it be the lengthen a skills duration to match its on-land counter part?

The first projectile that hits during this skill’s “active” period will inflict full damage as well as any additional affects (control, conditions).
After a projectile has been absorbed, the remaining duration will reflect all projectiles and block all other attacks.
An absorbed spell will manifest as a glowing orb hovering over the Mesmer’s left hand accompanied by a looping ethereal ambient sound effect.
Like other sequence skills, Echo will reset to mimic if the Mesmer is downed. It otherwise lasts indefinitely.

Why did you quote the wiki?

Why did you quote your mind ? Believing only you know how the skill is supposed to work ?

since you apparently didn’t read the original post:
OP quoted the skill facts, which are worded in a way that suggests it should absorb the first attack. you quoted the community written wiki, which only describes its current behaviour. it really doesn’t make sense to quote the wiki when arguing about game mechanics.
the skill facts, unlike the wiki, are being maintained by the ANet, so it stands to reason they should take precedence over any community written information.
either the tooltip is wrong/misleading and needs to be changed, or the behaviour is bugged and needs to be changed.
First of all, it wasn’t me that quoted.
Second, indeed, wikis are maintained by everyone and not just the developers. It describes the current behaviour. Yet the OP thinks he knows how the skill SHOULD work.
So, there’s no document or quote which says “as intended”, yet, the OP claims to know how it should work.
Yes, quoting the wiki is an invalid answer to the question ‘Is it intended that way?’. But saying ’It’s different than intended.’ is even worse.
The tooltip is misleading because of social accustoms. While ‘to absorb’ can mean
(transitive, physics) in receiving a physical impact or vibration without recoil.
, it can also mean
(transitive, business) To assume or pay for as part of a commercial transaction.
. So the pay for absorbing it, is the damage. The term ‘to absorb’ does not imply ‘to negate without cost’.
And yes, I just quoted a wiki.

Heal yourself. Absorb all incoming strikes for a period of time.
the game uses the term absorb with different meaning. you can argue the term as much, it doesn’t really matter.
so far ANet has tried to use different terms for different mechanics, if they don’t it’s most likely an oversight.
you’re assuming just as much as OP did. neither of you know the real intent of ANet, what we do know is that the skillfact of mimic is misleading and the issue itself should be addressed. either by changing the mechanics of mimic to absorb the first projectile like other skills absorb, or by changing the skill fact to clarify by using another term.
^
That’s basically what I meant. It’s the OP which jumps into conclusion saying, that this behaviour must be a bug.
Mimic also worked different before (as [Swap] in the other thread) and got changed to the current version. So it’s also most likely an intended change.

What are you talking about? Defiant stance uses the word “absorb” and you take no damage while its active. That’s perfectly consistent with “absorb” in Mimic being bugged or poorly worded.
