Mesmer clones pushing character under terrain floor
I also had this happen in a personal story mission (Temple of the Forgotten God), which forced me to relog, as there aren’t any waypoints in story missions.
I had it happen in the Straights of Devestation the other day, and happened to find a spot i was able to maneuver above the water, yet still under the terrain. And there were enemies around! I targeted one, turned away, and phase retreated right back above the terrain.
happend to me a lot of times in different locations. always created a bugreport with /bug. A /stuck- command to just reset you onto the surface would be pretty handy. Not an end all solution but a quick fix. I am already reluctant to use my phase retreat near rivers or underground.
@Alyssa.3419: While using Phase Retreat can pop your character back above the terrain, I have found that most of these areas have no accessible land masses to switch back to the normal weapons. Out of 15+ instances of this problem happening to me (all of which were bug reported), there were only 2 where I could actually stand on a rock or other outcropping and use Phase Retreat.
Just want to report that like the others in this thread, I’ve been constantly encountering the problem where using phase retreat while standing in a stream or inside a narrow cave would teleport my character underneath the terrain. Once there, the only means of escape is by use of a waypoint.
Here’s two locations on the Metrica Province Map that I can recall encountering this bug:
The champion spider cave east of Thaumanova Reactor and the champion jungle troll cave northeast of the Luminates Plant.
I add this pic to show what happened to me in the story quest: Temple of the Forgotten God. This is a very awkward problem for Mesmers and should be fixed asap. Of course I got there by Phase Retreat and I had to log out because there was no way to come back on the floor.
P.S. This isn’t the first time that happens to me.

I’ll try and explain a little more about this issue from what I understand.
…a response said it would be handled on a “case-by-case basis,” but I have experienced this so many times in so many areas, that I believe it to be more of a global issue with these skills.
This is kind of a global issue, and yet it’s not at the same time. The places that you’re falling through the world are places that are lacking “collision”; and while we’d love it if there was just one thing we could add collision to and fix this, we have to find the specific part of the world that’s lacking this and add it in. This is why we need the specific location where you fall through. Phase Retreat causes this to pop-up more often because of how it moves you as part of the skill. I hope this helps explain what’s going on behind the scenes here.
As for how to report these, screenshots and videos are great for helping us identify where the problem is, so please add those to your reports whenever you can. Thanks, everyone!

here’s another one:
The crashed “helicopter” event south of Xenarius Waypoint. I teleported myself inside the crashsite, unfortunately i was busy being the punchbag for a few undead so i couldn’t test if i could port back out.
If you’re asking for more locations, I have one (happened yesterday):
In Sector Zuhl I teleported into a rock in the final cave (the circular one with the boss). Hard to explain which rock, but I’ll try: If you run from the chest toward the center of the room and keep running straight past the center, it’s the big rock you run into.
I eventually got out with Blink, but the chest was non-interact-able by then (you may want to look into that chest also – a few people in the area were complaining about it).
Main: Crossandra (Mesmer)
Thanks for response Jason.
A quick question to help make reporting this easier: The bug report window states that an automatic screenshot is attached, so is this sufficient information as to where the problem occurred?
Also, as a fix for having to use a waypoint when we shouldn’t in this situation, is it possible to get some sort of trinket or skill change that produces a Phase Retreat-like teleport effect (minus the clone) that can be used underwater? For example, change the Blink skill such that underwater, the effect is similar to Phase Retreat (since it normally can’t be used underwater).
The interesting thing about this is it can be fixed on the rare occasion you manage to get back your above water set and use the “Blink” skill. I think there might be a global fix of some sort if under the map wasn’t filled with water, but that may just be me. To those of you desperate not to spend money on a waypoint, you may be able to find a corner you can shimy onto for you above ground set, as I did in the Oasis in Sparkfly Fen once when this happened to me. I still submitted a ticket and a screenshot, so hopefully that spot is fixed, but it’s the example I remember.
I have had this happen multiple times with Phase Retreat both outdoors an in Lion’s Arch during an instants. One thing it also can do is get you stuck in combat which means the only way to get out of it is to log out. When you log back in you are still under the world, but now your out of combat so you can use a way point to resolve it. If it happens in an instance the only way to resolve it is to swim to outside the boundarys so it kicks you from the instance.
well…. If we have to report every time this happened at every location we’ll be here forever. This happened to me so many times. 5 times in a row in Arah. But I guess it makes sense with the collision, cause if I could do it once, I could just keep doing it at the same spot, over and over.
Can’t you put an option in the game like /stuck, that teleports you a little bit above the ground so we can reset ourselves? It’s a good temporal solution.
I hate being in combat under the floor or in a wall, not being able to go to a waypoint, forcing me to relog.
This has happened to me a few times today, really starting to bug me. I have been reporting via /bug, so hopefully they can start fixing the areas. In my situations it has nearly always been on or near shallow water. Oddest time was on a platform in the air, I think I got stuck in a log of wood.
are you freaking serious that you dont have the tools and resources to nail these down in house?
