In spvp today I saw a mesmer that was able to mantain over four clones/illusions at any given time. Is this a bug or can mesmers go past the three illusion limit? Yes, I made sure that mesmer was the only mesmer around and all the clones had the same name and guild tag.

That is why I am posting this as a bug. I guess some mesmers know how to glitch past the limit of 3. When I play mesmer and try to create more than 3 clones the game automatically destroys the appropriate number of clones to keep me at the limit.

While clones are running towards someone due to a shatter skill being used, you can summon more clones, allowing you to have more than 3 temporarily. Just a mesmer mechanic (the ones being shattered are essentially dead, so not counted towards limit).

If they have >3 clones out at once without any being shattered, then it is a bug.

I see three possible reasons:

1. As banana said, shattering illusions do not count towards the limit of 3, even while they’re “alive”.
2. The fourth clone was the mesmer itsself
3. it wasn’t a mesmer, but he reflected your scepter #1-3 skill
