There are two bugs with this helmet, which I suspect are linked.

1. There is a dye slot that does not affect the appearance whatsoever. I’ve dyed it brightly red/pink in these screenshots and as you can see, no part of the helmet uses this colour.

2. You can’t dye the pelt; the main colour you put on the helmet (in my case a blue Sincerity dye) affects the tint of the pelt.

So I suspect that the unusuable dye slot is supposed to let us dye the pelt, but it is bugged and draws colour from the wrong dye slot.

EDIT: Added a third screenshot with a much darker main dye and as you can see the pelt turned nearly black.
