I bought an outfit on the gem store, then decided
to buy a separate cosmetic mask. I can’t seem to get the two to combine. I either get the default hood on the first outfit I purchased or nothing at all.

Outfits are all or nothing with a headpiece on/off switch.
The Mask you bought is a skin for your armor headpiece and thus will be hidden when your outfit is turned on. Sorry :\

Yes and thats why alot of people want more armor skins instead of outfits in the game, but since people still keep buying outfits anet keep making em.

its not a bug sadly, what happens in that you have two skin sets, and the outfit skin set cannot be combined with the normal skin set..

and honestly, I don’t know why, you can already hide the helmet, shoulders and glove if you like, so..

But yea, it’s unfortunate, we have been complaining about it since they started making outfit and we’ve yet even to get an official stance. we have some vague dev responses saying they’re scared of us mixing and matching and then complaining about clipping issues or something.. as if we’d be so petty

That’s not really true. The ‘official stance’/Dev statements are very clear. There is no mixing of Armor types: Light, Medium, Heavy, Outfit (a fourth type).

Here’s a quote: ‘When we started looking at bringing more of the clothing back into armor with mix and match styles there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece).. There really is no way at this point over six years since we started development to make absolutely everything work together.’

All I’m gonna say is this: if anet one day finds a way to sell the goggles of the mad scientist outfit as a seperate skin, I will personally walk 2000 miles to their studio and empty my life savings at the front desk
