Q:

Hey all, I searched the forums but haven’t found anything on this. I use the mouse with right/left click to maneuver a lot in game. Sometimes (not a lot), maybe once or twice in a couple hours of gaming, the mouse will totally escape the game and then the game will minimize (Desktop becomes Active). I did try disabling all non-essential services and application, including virus check, to see if one or the other was causing a window to become active, but it still happened. Has anyone else experienced this?

A:

This happens to users with more than 1 screen who play GW2.

How to reproduce:
While playing in full screen mode put your mouse on the edge between GW2 screen and another screen.
Then hold a mouse button and drag your mouse onto the other screen.
Your mouse is now on the other screen.
Any click will put you onto desktop.

This problem is well known and got reported many times but as we all know ANet doesn’t care.

A workaround is the programm Cursor Lock.
You can use that tool to lock mouse to programms and screens.
It checks the position every x milliseconds – I recommend 50ms or less.

I’ve been getting this since a couple of patches ago. No idea what is causing it. Best guess at the moment is my browser(because I have the dragon timer opened in one of the tabs).

Actually I have intermittent problems with the game minimizing to the desktop and I only have one screen. It doesn’t happen if I play in full screen windowed.

My suspicion is that it has something to do with Windows 7 “helping” me by turning off some visual elements on my desktop because it thinks there is some program running that can’t support them. I haven’t been able to pin down the exact conditions that make it happen.

Most of the time I’m not even pressing any keys so I’m thinking there’s something going on with my video card driver.

Don’t ever think you know what’s right for the other person.
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

I was having issues and contacted my mouse manufacturer (Razer). This is the instruction I got back..perhaps something there might help you.

Try checking your usb
power settings. Follow the steps below
> * Right click on the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
> * Click on the Hardware tab.
> * Click the Device Manager button.
> * Click on the + sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
> * Right click on any Root Hub and choose Properties.
> * Click the Power Management tab and make sure there is NO CHECK in “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”
> * Click the OK button and do this for each Root Hub.
> * Next, click on Start and Control Panel.
> * Double click on Power Options.
> * Click the Hibernation Tab and uncheck Enable hibernate support.
>4) Does the
mouse appear in the device manager? Please check if the mouse is
detected there.

Except for the “…Aet doesn’t care..” part, this was the best answer I got (see note), and, your solution is SPOT ON, works fine for me so far. I wonder why I couldn’t find it in the searches?

NOTE: I think they care, there’s just a lot to fix, and fixing things usually breaks something else that was not foreseen. I’m sure they’ll get to this eventually.

I edited this, I forgot to say, Thank You Kejima, great help!

Thanks, I followed your suggestions first, didn’t help my situation, but, I think it could fix someone else’s. +1

I am always hopeful someone can use information I receive that helps me. Ironically, the Razer Naga Hex (green) mouse I just purchased had issues with the Synapse software for the profile settings.

Razer tech support actually has been in communication with me for the past 3-5 days trying to fix this since all profiles are saved on their own cloud server.

After uninstalling everything Razer and using an old HP mouse in the meantime, I downloaded and reinstalled their firmware (which apparently had been updated but I never got the update). Then downloaded and reinstalled the synapse software. However, I plugged my Razer back in before the synapse reinstall so that it could recognize it.

Boom…fixed my problem, finally. Also, because I had profiles that could not be adjusted, I finally able to delete the bad profile but recreate a good one without difficulty.

I do not use macros on my mouse but having the dodge roll on it helps a lot. But I also had the added confidence that whenever I had a problem with my mouse related to GW2, they were very prompt in helping me make sure my mouse was not causing the problem in game.

For me this issue was the “Display pointer trails” option was turned on; cleared and now works on Windows 10 no issues.

See this MS tech docs https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/309703 for additional items if that is not it for you.

>.> 2 year old necro, and that issue isn’t the cause of what was described here, and shouldn’t be in windows 10 either. If Display pointer trails works for a lot of people, it makes me wonder if this accomplished refreshing mouse settings or just more of a temporary placebo effect (latter being more likely). Most desktops wouldn’t have had display pointer trails turned on, typically, although I’m not sure about Win10. I never use mouse trails and have this intermittent issue.

Since it was necro’d, for others finding this now, The issue is intermittent, and multiple brands of mice have seen this occur, it isn’t limited to just Razer. Primarily seen issue being that while holding down right mouse button, it can ‘click out’/release the button, and with 2nd monitor on you can see the mouse flash over there while in Windowed mode. However I’ve seen the issue with 2nd monitor disconnected while in windowed mode, with mouse appearing at edge of screen when right mouse releases.

As stated it is intermittent, can go days or weeks without an issue, then suddenly it will do it, and could do it for days to weeks. It comes as suddenly as it disappears. Additionally, I’ve heard from some people that cursor lock doesn’t prevent the issue completely.

Oddly, one solution that seems to have worked for a number of people, is to remove the Adobe Flash install (if you use chrome it’s built in and updated regularly anyways, of course for other browsers you need this if you use flash regularly, so this isn’t an option for everyone, and may not fix for everyone, just one of the more common odd things that seem to be solutions, but no promises).
