My character split into two
Witchcraft and trickery!
It’s consistently happening with transformations:
Necro Lich form leaves the original necro model next to the transformation, so after it wears off, you end with a clone next to you.
Anyway, I’ve heard it’s only visible for the own player, so it’s not exploitable (important), I guess…
Burn the witch!
If you are allergic to these ingredients, do not consume.
i got the same thing the other day. i’m a mesmer so at first i thought it was the old bug of a clone not dying, but it wasn’t selectable, like it was part of the scenery, had no weapon and just stood there idle. it stayed for about 5 minutes before it just vanished.

Same issue here. I also noticed that they don’t appear on anyone else’s screen but still amusing.
(Yeah, it happened twice in the second picture so I had my Ice form and normal form clones!)
Yesterday, this happened to me a couple of times during the event to take the Cathedral of Verdance when the Risen Priest of Melandru transformed me into a drake.

Please let us know if this is still happening. Which transform exactly? Were you in/out of combat at the time? Right after combat? What graphic settings were used at the time? Is this 100% of time when transformed? Any additional information that may help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Yes from anything, Ele elite skills on land and underwater. Transformation tonic etc.
Happened to me as well.
Just after finishing CoF path 2. A couple of us used transformations after opening the chest (the other person said he also had a clone of himself).
The attached graphics settings should be what I was using at the time, although I don’t remember if I was in windowed mode or not.
I did find it pretty entertaining xD
It happened on my guardian a few weeks ago when I was transformed by the skritt burglar. The clone appeared in the running animation, but without any weapon.
EDIT: It’s happened recently to me too.
This is occurring with Lich Form/Plague on an irregular basis as well.
It happens for me in Urban Battlegrounds fractal too. At start, When we transform to charrs.
I’ve had this happen to me with Lich Form and Plague on a very irregular basis. So far it often happened while in combat, but I’m not sure if the form simply ran out, or if I switched back manually. Considering that I usually only use these skills while in an intense combat situation, I can’t say if they also occur out of combat. It doesn’t happen consistently every time. But I have been seeing it quite often over the last couple of weeks. Since I’m playing on a laptop, a lot of my graphic settings are set to low.

Happened to me after using the cauldron and turning into a costume brawl character (pink moa). I’m not sure when it ran out but when I switched back to the GW window, the copy was gone and the cauldron had expired. It was there for around 5 minutes.
I had been out of combat for about 10 seconds and use Best Performance graphics settings with:
Render Sampling at native.
All checkboxes off.
This has just happened to me when using the whirlpool skill in combat. First and only time I’ve ever seen it happen. I made a thread about it because I didn’t see this one. I’ll link it here.

I was in Fractals, and changed to Lich Form to crush some of those harpies (also because it offers short stability). As my health started to run low, I jumped down to a lower platform so they wouldn’t kill me, and left my form (before it ran out naturally). And this is what happened. It is possible that perhaps the fact that I was taking damage from the harpies as I switched back was a factor. Or maybe I took falling damage.
I’m not sure if my fellow players could also see the clone. I suspect it is only client side, or they would have mentioned the creepy giant Lich guarding one of the platforms. It is also possible that manually leaving the form before it runs out is also a factor here. But I do not know of any way to reliably reproduce it. It’s just a thing that happens from time to time.

This is still happening with tonics.
It wasn’t for a while, but it started happening to me two or three days ago.
Not in combat, (had just come out of combat, enemies in the surrounding area, not aggroed.) low-medium graphics settings. The player is the only person to see the clone, other players in the area cannot see it.
I was using the tonic that turns you into an inquesty asura, and the tonic that transforms you into a variety of hoofed animals and it occurred both times.
You can walk through your clone.
Chance of it happening with any “transform” (except for nerco F1 skill, that’s the only one that I didn’t see the double glitch in out of what I ’ve seen) to cause a temporary double of any of my characters that stays for about 1-5 mins.
Most graphic settings are med-high and I got doubles on:
~AC explore, path 3 when Tzark places the spell to make everyone appear like a ghost, my character left behind a copy and that was the first time I’ve notice this little graphic bug but was too busy at the time to report it… that was roughly… a few months ago. XD
~The husk or “overgrown” tonic from a chest in TA p1/p2 makes a double the time used one.
Didn’t have an issue with the Box of Fun. No issues with anything that was condition or boon/buff origin.
I don’t know if this helps, but most of the time it seems to effect only my Sylvari Mesmer. Honestly when it first started way back, I thought it was a trait or something I had on her that caused doubles, like making a clone skill or something, but the clone never moved and my indicator didn’t recognize it as a “clone/phantom” so I didn’t know what it was.
I took advantage of my first experience with having the ‘split’ to have some fun with my doppleganger and snap this screenshot after using a transform
Human Female Necromancer
I had just defeated an Aetherblade assault to unlock the gate on the Eastern Balloon Tower in Queensdale. I wanted to see if the chest was still bugged, and it was. So after I went back down the steps to leave in disappointment, I suddenly found a duplicate of myself left behind me on the stairway at the bottom of the tower. Having known about this issue from it being reported on the forums, I decided to take advantage of the situation with my doppleganger and popped a piece of Candy Corn Almond Brittle food as it sometimes transforms you into a Candy Corn Giant. It did, and I then pulled out my balloon.

I had it happen in the Swampland Fractal using a tree tonic.
and the stupidest grown-ups who are the most grown-up.”

Oh, there’s a topic about this.
I’ve had it happen on multiple occasions with Norn racial transformations. On at least one of those occasions, I submitted a bug report (although the clone vanished before I finished and attached a screenshot, so only a text description is there).
I guess I’m a bit out of the ordinary on this one. My split-personality didn’t come from a tonic or transformation. It happened right after claw of jormag event about 2 months ago. Unlike others, mine isn’t a mirror-image type clone (ie. reversed), no mine is actually identical to the actual character, only the real one is holding the weapon and has wings.

That is what mine was, a duplicate of myself minus the weapons and wings, like yours. It was also not related to any transform or tonic. Just hit the steps and it popped up behind me.

Happened to me in Arah when I used a Phantasmal tonic. I was out of combat, not sure but possibly right after combat, graphic settings were all on highest. Started recording right after I used the tonic and noticed the clone:
