Guild Wars 2

I’ve joined Vigil for my most recent character, (did the story step for it, got the quest reward and everything, and my PS notes that I joined Vigil), then helped a guildie do her Order of Whispers story, and now the game has ME on the Order of Whispers path instead of Vigil. This will be my 8th run through on the personal stories, and I’ve NEVER had the game change my order path, ever. I’ve relogged, switched characters, even gave it a few days to resolve, but it’s still got me on the Order path now. Has anyone else heard of this? Is there a fix for it?

Did you accept the progress when helping your friend? That will change your Order.

Not on the one I did with her; I was a step ahead of hers, so I’d already done the order-selecting quest. However, I DID accept the very next progress w/ her since we were at level and it wasn’t order-specific (it was just watching the bickering between the Destiny’s Edge members around the fountain), but by that point, I was already in the Vigil and had gotten my own Vigil amulet. Maybe it was still considered part of the order selection step? I figured since my PS listed me as Vigil, I’d gotten the Vigil reward and it now was a different level of story w/ a different name, it was safe to join back up at this point since it let me take a story progression option w/ her. When it’s incompatible, it doesn’t usually give me a choice to progress.

Is there a fix? I’ve mothballed him until I know for sure that it’s too late to rectify that (“Oh, oops, yeah, glitch; we could have fixed it, but now you’ve gone too far down that road..”). If it is, it’s not a big deal—I like Tybalt’s story. If it’s not fixable, I’ll at least know I can get back to playing him again.

Thanks, Inculpatus! You’re probably right; that’s probably what did it even though I’d already completed my own order selection story. I’ve just not ever had it change my order before.

It seems accepting someone else’s progress puts you on whatever path they are on, whether any decisions are necessary in said quest, or not. At least, that is what I have gathered from the many Dev posts about this issue.

It should be more CLEAR during that decision about this behavior. Why would someone want to mess their story progression? I can see it would be a nice thing like being in sync with a friend, but it should be more a secondary and optional choice. I haven’t gone through this issue myself but from what I have seen in this forum it seems the behavior isn’t so user friendly and leads people to mistake. That can be a huge game breaker for some players. After choosing an order, keep the order! Or make it more clear when asking that progression that your path will become the same as their.

I just shared a PS with my Guildie this weekend, and I am pretty sure it gives an announcement about the story paths. It may not be as clear as it could be, though. I don’t remember exactly what it said, as I am familiar with how sharing PS works.
