I bought 12 named level 80 exotics like I do every few months to throw them in the Forge. It seemed a perfect time to do it as I just got a bunch of Mystic Forge Stones for getting my 15,000 point Achievement Chest. The bug: I got a few non-level 80 exotics back from putting in exclusively named level 80 exotics. This never used to happen so I am totally going to assume it is a bug because something like that would or should never be implemented without telling the playerbase so they can then decide for themselves if they ever want to take their chances with the Forge like that again. Please tell me this is a bug and a fix will be implemented for it post haste. If, “It’s working as intended” then I am fairly ticked that we weren’t told of this change. If it was in the patch notes and I missed it, then shame on me for not paying better attention.

Good people at ArenaNet, you can totally lock this as I found out this happened months ago. A thank you is in order though: Thanks for making the RNG worse on precursors. Also, thank you for doing so whilst not yet implementing a non-RNG way to get said precursors. Anywho, toodles!

It is not a bug but a feature.
It is like that since a few months (wasn’t possible indeed before that).
And it’s quite often (2/3 of the mystic forge with only 80 gives me exotic < 80 in return).

When I decided to go for a precursor I started including one or two level 76-78 exotics with a couple of 80s to pretty much guarantee I would get an 80 exotic. didn’t work all the time but I did get 3 precursors for half what they would have cost me to buy. Might still be worth trying.
