I’m not sure if this was an intended change or not, but seems new and unwanted.

The issue: if you right click on an object, intending to use the camera, and not the object, and you release the right mouse button over the same object, no matter how much you’ve panned the camera around in the intervening time, the object will be “interacted” with or otherwise selected if there is no interaction available.

The expected behavior is that the right-click to interact only triggers for a nominal “click”, not a drag-and-drop type of input.

To understand why this is an issue, be in a large crowd (Crown Pavilion works for this), target the boss, and now move around while panning the camera. Within a few seconds the boss will no longer be your target because you’ve selected an ally instead.

Another thing that frequently comes up is if you’re standing next to an NPC, and you want to pan the camera around a little. The next instant, you are talking to the NPC.

This behavior makes it so that using the right-click camera results in an extremely high rate of unintended inputs.

I honestly cannot imagine why anyone would have the “Rightclick to interact/attack” option on. I highly recommend turning it off and simply using leftclick to target. It solves the issue you just mentioned.

Issue: Nearby Friendly Target Being Selected Unintentionally Due To Mouse Button Losing Focus and Reacquiring It Quickly

  • The recently added option to ‘Disable Right-click Targeting’ has helped with the linked issue of randomly selecting a nearby friendly target while moving your camera with the right mouse button. This happens because the mouse tracking has an issue to where the game reads you as releasing the mouse button (despite your having never released it) and then re-‘clicks’ the button down quickly. Due to this issue, if your cursor was over/near another friendly, then they become your new target as if you had intentionally clicked on them to select them.

You may find it helpful to uncheck the “Right-click to interact/attack” option. It helps stop the random NPC selection when the right mouse button starts having this tracking loss issue.

I also check the “Double-click to interact/attack” option so I interact with NPCs with a double left click.

I think you need a better imagination if you can’t figure out the appeal of reducing the number of inputs by 50%. Your suggested workaround is fine for the moment but it doesn’t at all solve the issue that was raised; technically you’re off-topic.
