Night maps are too bright and glowy
It’s the light adaptation turning itself on by default upon map change. Try turning it off and see the difference.
the “light adaptation” setting makes no difference. GW2 has always had this problem.
yes, “light adaption” is just an automatically gamma-correction in dark scenes… but night has always been too bright and “glowy”… i remember one dev saying, that the engine cant handle it
Light Adaptation is actually more than just a gamma correction.
Also i have heard several complaints about the snowblind fractal’s forest being too dark, so i am not so sure the engine cannot handle dark scenes.
Are you complaining that you can see at night? The day this game becomes some bullkitten where you need to squint and can’t see at night is the day I leave. Get over that kitten, turn your brightness down or something.

Plus, there’s the Dark Room of the Obsidian Sanctum and Weyandt’s Revenge. The engine can/does handle dark areas.
As for the main topic of the OP, I’m fairly certain it’s that way on purpose and not a bug. Anet simply doesn’t want the night cycle to be dark (at least not in the game as it is right now).
I would love if night was darker like in the forest of Snowblind. It would make glowy weapons/torches more useful at night. The light adaptation check box could make it so it looks as it does now, but to have a standard overall dark nighttime would be awesome.
Although I prefer night time in games being simply a lot darker
than day time, there are techniques you can use to give the feeling
of night time and still have a very playable game with everything
clearly visible.
GW2 utilises non of them.
As far as I’m concerned this game has no night/day cycle.
Or to be more precise, the day night cycle is such a joke.
It has almost 0 effect on environmental lighting,a 5% difference maybe,
the transitions from day to night and back to day take 10 sec,it’s
like someone flipped a switch, and there is no correlation between the
colour of the sky and the light emanated from surfaces on the ground.
Non at all.
And since this is not a bug but a design feature,it’s place should be in the
general forum section,so mods …
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-
-Go go Espartz.-
i would like to see an update that tweaks GW2’s lighting in many maps, to make the game look a lot better that it currently does
would it be possible to have this issue addressed by the release of the expansion?
With the right sweetfx preset u can have darker nights
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
And yet, just yesterday I did Weyandt’s Revenge and noticed it was too dark to the point of annoyance. And no, I’m not referring to the dark room, the JP in general.
OP, what are your settings and what are you changing for “bloom”? Also, what is your viewing environment? Is it a dark room or a bright sunlit room? Does you monitor have the capacity for and calibrated toward, a higher cd/m2 value? All these things change ones perception of brightness. The dev’s have to design around a wide array of video displays.
