In the beta, you received a (considerable) amount of karma for helping someone with their personal story, but now it seems you get no reward of any kind. The official wiki for Karma still even states, “Assisting another player with their personal story.” as a method of acquiring it.

Is this by design or currently broken?

Would be nice to get an update on this.

They changed it. Now you can only receive karma from events.
Helping a friend doesn’t give any reward which is quite annoying.

I rememeber that I got 50 karma for helping my friend’s story quest. I was ~20lvl and he was doing a ~10lvl quest. I was week or two ago.

We were used to get karma in the beginning (august and early september), but not over the last two month..

It was definitely there in all the beta/stress tests right up til launch, but only recently I’ve noticed we get nothing. That’s why I was hoping for official word if it’s just broken, or removed.

Yeah, I can confirm this 100%, I am not getting Karma when helping my friend with is Personal Story and I am sure I was getting Karma before.

An official word on this would be appreciated.

Also confirm. I recently helped out a group of guildees with their last four quests before Arah, and ended with the same amount of karma I went in with.

They haven’t awarded karma for a long time now for helping with others personal story quests. I expect they removed this to prevent people exploiting it but haven’t heard official word.

My wife and I didn’t get karma helping each other other on our mains, but last night we got it for doing each others stories on our new alts in divinity reach. We are both human, but different backgrounds. We got about 100 karma for the helping each other for the level 9 and 11 story quest. We even commented to each other that they must have fixed it since we hit 80 on our mains…

I will test that later on my human thief who has to do her level 6 storyline quest.. I’ll ask my bf to accompany me and then we can have a look if he receives karma for helping me out..

Weird, he got 90 karma for helping me…

I can confirm: some of lower level (5-15) human(thief) story quests award karma for helping friend.

The first few quests, which didn’t involve much fighting, gave karma to anyone who accompanied me out of curiosity about the stories. Later, when help with fighting was useful, there was no longer a karma reward.

Yep I can confirm there is now no reward to helping friends with personal stories, except seeing them (which honestly only matters in the first 30 levels). Only reason to do it is to actually HELP the friend with the mission if they need it.

I thought you also got guild points for helping folks with personal story, but I admit I haven’t checked.
