I spent all my Tyria mastery points and completed Pact Commander. I now have both the Revered Antiquarian (legendary) line and the Follows Advice (fractal) line completed (1,270,000 xp). The game did not choose a secondary line for me and I cannot manually do so because all lines are locked and I have no points to spend. Experience is awarded in the open world but it is NOT shown as being credited anywhere. The wiki says “Any additional XP earned will be applied to another track in the same mastery category.” but it apparently isn’t. I don’t know whether this a bug or whether it is intended but, either way, it is pretty much the final straw for me if it isn’t rectified.

You said you spent all of your mastery points on Pact Commander. Did you put Tyrian Mastery points into Revered Antiquarian and Follows Advice? If you don’t do that, you can’t go to the next tier (which would be why you can’t manually choose the next tier). If you’re out of points, you can look at the achievements to find which achievements you can do to get more Tyrian Mastery points.

Thanks for your response. I chose legendary line. It maxed out and shifted automatically to fractal line, Now it won’t shift again. The result is that I am now not advancing in any line because, yes, I am out of Tyria mastery points, I suppose that I could get a point by doing something like the last two achieves in Teq or killing 50 karka babies in LA, or collecting spoons or something but I don’t think I should be forced to do specific tricks (immediately! drop everything else!) to gain ANY xp. I am a journeyman player with 10.5k AP and 37 mastery points spent and I know how I want to play. Are we to be denied ALL xp if we don’t play the game specifically to get mastery points? Very strange. Your question suggests the answer is yes, and it is very dismaying.

I believe that the game hides your XP accumulation until you have chosen the next mastery. Several guildies were in positions were they hadn’t chosen their next mastery to work on after completing a particular mastery line — when they finally remembered to check, it didn’t seem that they were making any progress. After they chose the next mastery line and re-opened the panel, it showed them with some progress.

I am not sure from the description whether this fits the scenario described by the OP.

I’m not sure what is causing dismay. Once you max out your Tyrian Masteries, you won’t gain any XP, just like before Heart of Thorns launched.

I understand it might be disconcerting whilst still needing to fill out lines, but it sounds like that won’t take long, in your case. What then?

Not actually. Before HoT one could still gain XPs after max level, they just would not level up. XPs were still rewarded despite maxed out.

I meant toward the XP/Mastery bar. Of course, we all initiate XP; the numbers show up on the screen with each kill, or other actions.

But, it did not, and will not (in the future) cause the XP/Mastery bar to advance, once maxed out.

Ah I see. I meant the old XP bar pre-Masteries. Before you would keep gaining XPs and the bar being filled even though you could already be max level. But instead gaining levels you would just gain only some now-defunct Skill point.
