No sound during tower collapsing cinematic
Is your environment volume down? That’s where it’s volume control is.
All volume sliders are at the same level – which is about 80% (never ever touched them after installing the game). Sound quality is at medium, Music interval is at medium and mixing buffer size is at lowest latency.
edit: reset the sound settings to default and tried again, still no sound.

How about the Fractal cinematic, are you able to hear sound with that one?
It can be found by entering the Fractals of the Mists map from a portal Lion’s Arch, and it should play the video for you. If you’ve already seen it before, you can view it again from the hub just on the other side of the portal by speaking to one of the nearby NPCs.
I can hear the voiceover explaining what the fractals is about, but other than that I hear no sound from the actual cinematic.
I just created a new character, the intro cinematic for that does have sound.
Not directly related to this but also about the cinematic of the new content… I have noted that the cinematic with a dialog explaining what happened to the tower (before it collapsing) has no captions at all. From what I can recall I believe I heard some sound during the cinematic of the tower collapsing though (a low sound though but there was some), I might need to play it again to be sure.
A week or so ago I noticed something similar that might be related to your issue this was for a different cinematic.. I guess it would have been the new Fractals cinematic when they added that patch but I honestly don’t remember. I have 2 sound cards, one goes to my PC speakers and the other sends all the audio to my sound system where my TV is. Typically you just pick which sound card through the Guild Wars 2 options and it will use that sound card for everything but during this cinematic what happened was I was getting the dialogue coming through one card, and the rest of the sound going through my other. Do you have more than one sound card?
I have an internal soundcard in my PC, and I use a Sennheiser USB headset which Windows recognises as a seperate soundcard. I’ve unplugged it to see if the sound would play and it wouldn’t.
I’ll test on a different computer tonight to see what that does.
I have played that instance again last night. I have confirmed it and I got all sounds normally.
I know that I’m not supposed to revive topics two months old, but I just wanted to report I finally found out what caused the issue.
I bought a Creative headset some time ago, which came with this “Alchemy” software which should improve game sounds or something like that. Basically, it places a dll in the game folder which the game will then use. Since it hardly did anything I had completely forgotten about it and moved on.
I noticed today that I had a lot of Creative errors in my event viewer. Since the only thing I had done during the time of the errors was playing GW2, I thought I’d suddenly remembered the Alchemy DLL. I removed it from the GW2 folder and the errors stopped. Then, when I entered Lion’s Arch and the game randomly decided to show me the cinematic in which it gets blown up again (it just does that sometimes), I noticed that the sound was working (first time I ever had sound during a cinematic ).
So there you have it. Bad Creative software caused this issue. I thought I’d at least post it here in case anyone ever comes across the same issue.

Fantastic news! Thank you for this report. These kinds of one-off variables are super valuable to us when it comes to debugging issues that only seem to affect random users.
