This isn’t exactly a bug, and I have enough experience not to be worried by this, but I’ve noticed a change in the notification phrasing when my post in a thread is deleted because the thread is deleted.

It used to say “because the thread was deleted” or “because the original post was deleted.” Phrasing that didn’t imply anything bad on my part. Now it says:

“A moderator moved a message you posted to the forum ‘Trashcan’ with the reason:

Your thread (thread title here, NOT my thread, just one I commented in) was removed because it is against our Code of Conduct. This notification is only to inform you why your post was removed.

Follow the new thread here."

It’s a little disturbing to be getting the phrasing that should be sent to the OP responsible for the thread. Especially in this latter case, where the OP posted a whole series of inflammatory threads with the avowed purpose of getting banned. While I know that the mods certainly don’t intend to castigate those that responded reasonably in such threads, and likely haven’t, it’s still mildly concerning given the shaky nature of the forum software. If it’s generating the OP’s phrasing to every thread poster, is it also attributing the OP’s liability to everyone else in the thread?

Therefore I suggest that in future this automatic notification contain phrasing more like:

“A moderator moved a message you posted to the forum ‘Trashcan’ with the reason:

Your post in the thread (thread name here) was removed because the original post is against our Code of Conduct and the thread has been deleted. This notification is only to inform you why your post was removed.

Follow the new thread here."

(I do wonder why it includes following the new thread as a link when Trashcanned threads are gone and the link leads nowhere, but I’ll chalk that up to software that can’t be changed).

I, too, would prefer not to get notices that state, ‘Your thread/post was removed because it is against Forum Code of Conduct, etc.’, but rather the previous messages.

Since we have been informed the software can’t be changed, the change must have originated elsewhere.

That’s nothing new. I have came to a similar situation more than one year ago or so. I had simply replied to a post that got deleted (the thread wasn’t) and I got a similar notification.

It surprised me and then I tried to reply to it via PM, that sent a message to Support that gave me an automate reply. I contacted support that then told me that was because I had quoted a post that got deleted and then my post got deleted as well. If I hadn’t contacted them I would be still wondering what rule I broke (if any).

Also, I believe it gives a link to “Trashcan” because it may not be “deleted” but moved to a restricted thread that we don’t have access, then the system still provides a link (usable only for mods maybe).

Anyhow, given it was already said that they can’t do much with forums due it being from a third party that no longer maintains it, I don’t think such changes would happen any time soon.
