Guild Wars 2

With my first character, I went Priory (haven’t finished leveling first character, as I started a second to get my wife caught up with me).
With my second, I went order of whispers. I found at times with my personal story, I would have the Priory gal, along with Tybalt for my story mission (kind of handy having the extra hand). I am doing the lvl 60 story missions, and all was good until after Claw Island. I seem to have skipped ahead a little, and ended up getting a letter from Gixx, and then proceeded to do the Priory idol mission, and am being called a Magister by everyone, instead of Lightbringer. Having done the Whispers arc with my wife, I know what I’m supposed to be doing. Thankfully, I know the story from my wife’s playthrough, but I’m concerned that I’ll have this overlap if I do another character, which I’m planning on doing vigil on. Is there a way to prevent this overlap?

Have you played in a party within someone else’s instance? If so it’s not a bug but an intended “feature” and badly implemented design choice. If you accept progress while doing someone else’s story you are put on the same path as them until the next arc. There have been several “bug reports” about that but the official response is it’s working as intended. Also, given it has been this way since launch, it seems it’s going to be that way for a long more time.
