Permanent Stealth Thief In WvW
In Eternal Battlegrounds, there was a charr thief, who even when he attacked me and my party members, he wouldn’t get out of stealth. He seemed to have no cool down on his traps either.
Is this a known bug?
I would right click on them and report them.
I have a few questions because a permastealth-trap thief is possible although it should not be dealing a huge amount of damage. Certainly if he is hacking to have no cooldown that would be a reportable offense.
First, if he was perma stealth then how did you see him?
Second, what attacks were showing up in the combat log? Traps do no physical damage so they won’t bring him out of stealth.
Third, how did you experience this “no cooldown?” Traps can be placed on a 24 second cooldown, with additional trap dropped on using a heal skill. This can let the thief drop numerous traps in a short time with a relatively low reset time.
He had insane condition damage, so it didn’t take many hits to get one down. He would go out of stealth rarely if we really tried to bring him down and cc him, but then he’d immediately go back to stealth. And I don’t know how long a thief can stealth, but he would be stealthing the whole time. I’m talking 5 minute fights.

Thats a normal condi trapper…Working as intended,fun huh ?
This sort of ‘fun’ is why people leave the game.
Condi trappers don’t normally use direct attacks, only their traps. anet have seen it as ‘reasonable’ that traps don’t reveal the toon that placed them. So they get ridiculous damage and permastealth.
I run a Charr Ghost Trapper Thief on Ehmry Bay and I intimately understand how to play this build. Unless your thief was attacking you from stealth with direct damage attacks and maintaining stealth while doing so or had less than 24s cooldowns on their traps, it’s not a bug issue but a gameplay issue. Something to note: Trapper Thieves can place their traps ahead of time – they can have one ‘trap bomb’ placed and another ready to re-cast which can give the impression of unusually low cooldowns – the thief places a trap bomb in a likely place of movement, maintains stealth through dagger pistol 5-2-2-2 and Shadow Refuge, then when someone runs over the first trap bomb, they re-cast.
Unless you believe, Vephar, there was actual hacking going on, this should be re-posted or moved or merged to the thief or wvw forum, not the bug forum.
