Personal Story: Forging the Pact bug (blocking progress)
This bug is still going on. Could someone from Anet at leat acknowledge this? It’s stopping progress in my story.
Reported in game as well.
I think they responded in another thread saying that today’s patch should fix it. Apparently that is not the case, though.
Bugged out. I didnt get a patch download today…
Edit: I tried it again, right after I posted. It worked fine. I made sure I didn’t move past the green circles and waited for every event to happen, can’t say for sure that’s why it worked tho.

Still bugged… The second team don’t follow me to the southern exit.
Tried it for the second time today and it was OK, but green circles on the minimap were showing me wrong path.

Once you find the 2nd teamof scientists, and after you kill the mini-boss., the NPCs stand there and you cannot progress to the next waypoint.
Already played it 3 times. NPCs are bugged

So what does “tonight” mean? It’s now September 18th in Europe. I’ve just spent over 30 minutes searching the internet for some kind of patching information/schedule. Having to log on to the game patcher/launcher, search the internet, log into the GW2 forums and then scour individual threads for something as basic as a patch schedule….isn’t good.
When we log on to the game launcher, there’s a ‘news’ window. Please, please use that to give us the basic vital information we need, including patch schedules and notes using Universal Time or something equivalent.
Anyway, thanks for the official post. At least I found some kind of information…eventually.

The quest after the patch still no working for me. Same problem as before at the gate,when i gather the 2 group. Happening nothing.
I did this 3 times yesterday, 3 times today.
The recent patch few days ago, even a few hours ago (Aug 18, 2012 midnight PST) STILL doesn’t fix it!
Definitely blocking progress.
The worst part is, it is halted RIGHT before completion; can you imagine how frustrating it is?
Now quest works fine. It was fixed with September 17th patch.
still bugged…. i’ll try it again tonight, i’ll clear the cave first and talk to the npcs after. maybe they will follow all the way if they don’t get in combat. i hope…
Still bugged!!! Don’t you try it before you release a patch! The bug is end of story just change the story and make it enough the kill the mob which attacking the second group.
I start to thinking Anet want to players give up to play the game because we are not paying a monthly fee so your monthly server expanse will be reduce huh?
This is a main story. I am lvl 80, i try to have fun while playing but i feel, i am an alpha tester of the game. 15 days waiting for a patch this bug. This is not fair.
I tried this and failed 2 times. Then I was able to win it. Here is my ‘theory’. First, the plant dude didn’t die, I protected him (based on what others said, not sure if this is the issue). The first 2 times (when I failed) I went into the cave and killed everything before going up to the researchers. They would not follow me down to the blocked exit. The 3rd time, I stayed close to the right hand wall and fought only what I needed to to get to the researchers. After the dialogue, I then fought down to the blocked exit. It seemed that the reseachers would only follow me and T if we were fighting a mob, so I kept running ahead of the group to keep aggro going on the next mob. Then we got to the blocked exit and the story with plant guy started, and after that I was able to finish the quest. The cave is like a triangle, so when you go in only kill on the right hand side till you get to the researchers, then have their dialogue, then kill the stuff you didn’t (again on the right hand side, although a ‘different’ side of the triangle) and keep pulling mobs so that the researchers will keep following you. If I didn’t do this, they would run back to their spot and not move. This is how I was able to beat it. Seems like there is a wierd mechanic going on in the cave for Anet to fix.
Having same problem, Trahearn has not died and is in cave with 2nd group of researchers. I have cleared the mobs with 2nd group of researchers. I do the dialong with Kekt, and say to get going. Agent Zrii and crusader Afanan are there, and the 2nd group I started out to attack nearest mob and all joined in on battle, but as I progress through dungeon, only Trahearn will follow, the other stay in the enclave where the 2nd group was found. I made it to the southern exit with Trahearn and there is no dialog there that helps. He says in effect, he thinks he can get us out if I protect him.
Well at the blocked exit and only Trahearn followed me. I went back to the researchers and tried a dialog with Kekt again, but none of them including Zrii and Afanen will follow, This is still bugged, I am lvl 80. wasn’t able to get this far earlier before todays patch. the 2nd group of researchers were portaling out of the cave near the start. So there is an improvement but still bugged and can’t continue.
This really gets on my nerves.
How many times did you claim to have fixed this quest!? And it’s still the exact same bug! I have just wasted another 5s in repair costs (another pointless gold sink mechanic) and the quest itself (up to the bug) is irritating as hell.
Your game balance for players who want or have to play alone is seriously broken. NPCs stand around doing nothing after aggroing groups of up to 6 mobs that do 4000 damage per hit (while I do ~400 at lvl 62). And even if they fight at all they do absolutely no damage. It’s almost comical how they can swing their weapons at enemies for minutes without even a single one going down. On top of that enemies in general instantly swarm me (elementalist) and mostly ignore any NPC present.
I feel like playing a monk (+ chicken henchmen) in GW1 again. That was NOT the kind of nostalgia I was looking forward to!
Still bugged post-patch
I can confirm that this is still bugged post patch. I have bugged it in game, I cleared the cave and had the “escort to south entrance” showing, but they would not follow me out.
After this update this morning, I was able to finish the quest and now can continue. Not sure what I did different, just kill bunch of undead, yes NPC Trahearn die a few times but got him back. I try to clear the cave before talking to 2nd group main guy. Everyone follows to help fight, when cleared, I went back and talk to him and fight my way out of cave. Hope it help.
Not sure what I was doing differently, but I completed this quest twice without issues. 2nd time with video.
I just tried to do this quest and it is not working. Reaserchers don’t follow me, just stay in cave. Hope it will be fixed soon…
I’m at the point where I’m supposed to escort researchers to an exit but all the npcs fight one mob then reset and won’t follow me anymore. When I get the exit no advancement dialogue or event occurs so I’m stuck. I’ve tried the instance twice to be sure and it hangs at that point both times the exact same way.
11 days and still no fix….
this isn’t just some bug, it stops you from progressing in the storyline. how pathetic is that 11 days later, a game breaking bug isn’t fixed. The PM should be fired for not ensuring this defect has been corrected.
Still bugged for me as well……..very disappointing. I should be reimbursed for all this silver I keep wasting WPing to this area and trying this quest every time they say they fix it… :P
I can also confirm that this quest still is bugged post-patch (which game today).
The most annoying thing about this bug, is that the quest takes so long time to do, just to find out that you cannot even finish it!
I really hope this actually gets FIXED.
On the wiki that has been updated it says that ole’boy dying is what is causing the bug. How are you suppose to keep him alive with the crap A.I. that he has?? Half the time he doesn’t attack and just stands there. Then the part comes up where the barricades have to be broken through by that spinning risen. He won’t run with me there and just stands by and gets owned by the horde that runs out. There is no way I can take on that many enemies and keep him and myself alive. Arghhhhhhh
Edit: After watching the video that darvos posted a few posts back I see that he was able to keep T..whatever his name is alive the whole time. I’ll give it another go when I get home from work…still crap though…

Yea…..still messed up for me. The first couple areas of the game were OK cause they beta tested them…..the rest of the game is a complete mess. I run into game breaking issues on almost a daily basis, extremely disappointing.
Is there a reason why you refuse to fix this? This has been an issue for nearly two weeks. Please stop saying that you’ve fixed this bug until you’ve actually fixed it.

Still bugged, none of the researchers will follow
I managed to keep Trahearne alive and I hugged the right wall going in and out of the caves. That seemed to do the trick.
I’m having an issue with this quest also, the researchers you are supposed to rescue won’t follow me, for all i care they should be left to die in the cave but for some reason my story line won’t allow this so could you please fix this bug?!

I’ll confirm that if you can keep Trahearne alive you can get past the quest. I made sure to just catch the edge of groups to aggro them and kept Trahearne close to me and alive. Went in the cave and killed the beast that was fighting the researchers and then before I talked to the one researcher after saving them I went and cleared the rest of the cave. Then I went back and talked to him. Now at this point it still didn’t look like the whole group was following me but I continued on anyway and when I got down to the barricade, Trahearne started his dialogue and the quest continued on.
OK, I finally able to clear it. After trying so many times, here’s what went well for me:
1. Ignore the first dead Asura.
2. Clear all the mobs on the path of the first green circle.
3. Then ignore all the mobs and keep running to the 1st research team (on the hill).
4. Help 1st research team fight undeads.
*5. When it’s time to move, walk S-L-O-W-L-Y + in the middle of the path > making sure all research team is moving and following you.
6. Go into the cave after whisper agent clears the barricade.
*7. Clear ALL mobs inside the cave including southern exit BUT DO NOT GO NEAR the abomination that fights the 2nd team.
8. After southern exit is cleared, help 2nd team defeat the abomination.
*9. When it’s time to move, walk S-L-O-W-L-Y + in the middle of the path toward the southern exit.
10. After Trahearne summon his minions, go back and exit from the cave entrance.

It doesn’t matter whether Trahearne died, or left behind, because he will spawn next to you. Goodluck!

Yeah the key is the slow moving.
Unfortunately, I have this bug still after the most recent patch (9.19).
I’m just doing this quest and have the bug as well. Trahearne didn’t die but I killed the savage abomination before killing all the other undead. Sorry anet but this is ridiculous that this is still bugged after all these notifications.
Given the amount of crap you have to go through with this quest I don’t want to have to do it again. I died once and got taken back right to the convos in concordia which is ridiculous.

Spent another 30 minutes in this quest. Everything would have worked this time, I was really careful to always stay close to the other NPCs, kill all the undead before progressing and stuff…
Then right before the end: Server down!
Weeeeeeeeeee!!! xD
Can you please, please, please reduce the amounts of undead in this quest so next time I do it I only have to cross my fingers for 15 minutes instead of 30?

Still bugged. What’s worse? At the first group of Asura, when you had to defend against waves of mobs, all the NPCs died and I had to deal with 2 of those slithering mobs with plated name plates. And the 2 of them corpse camped me (as checkpoint was just above) till all my gear broke. Slapped on secondary gear and guess what, it was bugged in the cave as researchers just sat there.
This constant bugs in personal quests with the ridiculous mobs in the dungeon exploration mode is becoming a HUGE turn off for GW2 for me.
Mission was bugged for me yesterday but seems to be fixed today. Thanks!
Ok, i have run this about 6 times now, and i finally got it. I ran into all the problems stated above. The main problem was the second research team not moving. What i noticed was this is directly related to Trahearne NOT DIEING. The part were he is susceptible to dieing is just after searching the first spot to the left before you make the climb up the hill. What you want to do is to kill all the undead in that area before searching that left sight. Once it is clear then search it, kill the undead in that direct area. Then, move to the hill to run up it, but dont. Trahearne and the other npc will attack those new adds at the bottom of the hill and WILL NOT FOLLOW YOU. You have to kill them off before going up the hill, when they are dead he follows you. Keep him alive the rest of the way. How you know you are doing good is when you go inside the cave you will not see bugged out worms freaking out going back and forth.. if you see worms freaking out.. start over. If you do it right, there is only one worm and its normal. As said in an above post, dont go straight to the team! Go around them to the left and kill everything in the tunnel to the exit point. If you have dont this right the exit point is open and not blocked. After clearing the undead in the tunnel go back and kill the big guy and talk to the team. Again as said above.. move SLOWLY to the exit, along the way couple of grubs will pop up they are semi buggy till you attack them. When you get to the bottom, Trahearne will summon the help you need. After that kill everything and you will be good to go. The bug is related to Trahearne and his dialog or the rest of the stuff doesnt happen, if he dies it messes up everything. When you dont do it right worms are bugged in the tunnel it seems. I did this and it worked after 6 tries so you can imagine the time i spent on this. Im sorry for the wall of text but… hope this helps!

Luckily yesterday’s patch fixed Forging the pact’s inital bug of not being able to lead the researchers outside to the final boss. However, now I’m able to defeat the boss and collect my reward and everything, but when I leave the instance (thing glows and stuff indicating its safe to leave) it’s like I never did the quest.
I’m prompted to enter the personal story quest again, and have to re-complete it.
Anyone else having a similar issue since yesterday?
Last night’s patch fixed the researches not following me from earlier, but now when you complete the quest and leave the instance, YOU DONT GET CREDIT.
I just completed this story chapter. I was able to select my reward and it crashed. when I restarted it was reset as if I never did it. The instance is repeated. I do not want to do it all over again as it was the longest most poorly devised quest and how do I know it will not do the same thing again. Killing the last boss took several minutes. It was crazy and now… rinse and repeat? I hope not!
