After fighting through STUPID amounts of undead (seriously in a long mission with no repair stuff or anything), we end up here with the people we’re supposed to escort magically teleported out of the cave and we found them dead surrounded by enemies. The way we’re supposed to go out (southern exit which is past even more enemies) is blocked so we can’t even get there to trigger the cutscene.

Reported it in-game and also reporting it here. See the picture for an illustration via the map including white dots showing where we went.

Okay, it is still happening today and seems to be consistent making it impossible to complete.

They just magically appear outside fighting and dying with RESPAWNING enemies so trying to beat them and take them to the right exit is impossible as well.

Should be fixed asap like with the other storyline bugs. Also I have attached a new screenshot showing them on the outside fighting/dying.

Has anyone else had this bug before? If you haven’t, did you complete this on your own? I wonder since some bugs seem to be caused by having two people in the same story instance at once.

Hi, I’m the person he’s playing this with and this bug has indeed happened to us twice now (ignore me not being there in the second pic, I got DC’d 10 minutes before hand and thus chucked out of the instance)

Any help on this would be very much appreciated so we can continue the storyline together.

From the above link, it is linked to Trahearne and NOT dying during the mission which is near impossible.

Can someone from Arenanet please confirm a fix for this as this is something that can really stop people from completing it. Especially with the AI tendencies to die, the respawning enemies (stop enemies respawning in personal story missions like this one), etc.

^ see. defo the main problem, along with Traherne not being programmed to pop into the ruins if he is dead when you get there. Please fix this as soon as possible

I am having the same problem, wherever Trahearne dies is where he stays the rest of the mission. Not possible to complete and needs a fix to continue.

Glad someone else posted here, hopefully anyone else who has had the problem will post here as well. Would really like a fix asap because trying to keep Traherne alive without dying is just too tough with those respawning Risen :/

Which seems to be the main problem with it, and unless you have a party (of 3 – 5) or are somehow able to kill all the risen without Trahearne dying AND without them respawning then you’re screwed.

Regardless this proves it is a bug if the only difference between beating it or not is the death of a vital NPC.

Actually I did it solo and the npcs wiped once while trying to get out of the cave but I was able to revive them all.

How did you get them past the start of the mission? (where you need to head up a hill, and then get told to go up another hill to some asura) Without being stopped due to enemies respawning? Also what profession were you?

From what people have said, when it’s bugged, it always happens because the NPC died BEFORE they got into the cave with the risen grubs.

I apologise if this is already been posted, just ran “Forging The Pact” and got all the way to the end at the south gate to rescue the research workers. Its been indicated as the point to progess the next stage of the instance.. but nothing. Been all over to try and clear mobs to see if it triggers but nothing is working

This is a very buggy instance. Trahearne has to be with you and alive BEFORE you enter the cave to rescue the team. If he stops ‘moving along’ then you might as well restart.

Having the same problem which is incredibly frustrating. I fought off a bunch of dudes but they kept repawning so I figured it was one of those quests where they kept spawning untill you completed an action. Got to the researchers had a cut scene and then I was on my own. 2 researchers popped up out of nowhere when I was almost at the end of the cave and then I ran into the wall. Then I did a google search and then I came here.

Quest will bug no matter where you are in the quest if Trahearne dies, he died in the cave for me and it bugged out. This is very VERY frustrating. I’m a mesmer so I can’t very well tank for him either. I hope they fix this ASAP.

This is incredibly annoying i got to the second team in the cave then as soon as i finished talking to the asura they teleported to where the first team was and refuse to follow me. Seriously pretty BS.

Just happened to me, i “found” the npc’s in the cave and then had to escort them to the exit but once their rpg talking finished and teleported or something and i was left well stuck and un able to progress

edit: just completed it on the second attempt, the only thing different i guess and i noticed this time around wasm that the first attempt i cleared the entire cave before i found the npcs to rescue and that i waited at the first “grub spawn” marker on the map until they spawned as they didnt seem to on the first attempt.

hopefully you will find the bug and be able to fix it.

I have problem too, in this instance: Treharne run away charging everything is moving in the instance and the second NPC run to him when the Sylvari die. I can only stay watching them, because I can’t manage all the enemys in the instance, in the same time…

I have the exact same problem and it’s very frustrating. I even tried taking it very slow and killing every single enemy, but to no avail. I really hope they bust out a fix for this soon.

I’ve already tried it again after the patch to no avail. It seems the NPCs seriously have a mind of their own and doesn’t like to follow me whatsoever and would rather instead run into a large group of enemies and die.

It doesn’t work. Researchers follow me, but Trahearne doesn’t, he stays in the other entrance. There’s no way it can be finished and I wish there was a way to fix it without having to repeat the whole mission. With a scholar character it’s difficult enough to do it once.

Same for me. I did the qust twice now and everytime Trahearne don’t want to follow me into the cave. After I rescue the second team, everyone get ported outside where Trahearne is standing, and won’t follow me anymore.

This quest is still bugging for me even after the patch added on 8th September. I can’t manage to complete the quest without Trahearne falling at least once. Whenever this happens he stops following me and so I am unable to complete the quest. I’ll be at level 80 before too long, so I hope this gets dealt with properly really soon!

I’m having the exact same bug. I’m reluctant to try the workaround because it is a long mission as many have said, and it’s very hard to keep Trahearne alive since he has a tendency to not stay with the group. For someone who’s all about “uniting people into a formidable fighting force” he really likes being a lone ranger.

Also, I’ve been doing all the missions solo.

Still bugged for me, the NPCs just sit at the entrance after the cave cutscene.

I tried walking to the exit but it was blocked, tried to kill all the enemy AI but more just constantly spawn.

This quest is getting slightly annoying.

Had this just bug in a similar fashion though to my knowledge trahearne never died until after i found the second research team and everyone got ported outside, never visibly saw him die in the caves or during all the rest of the undead fights unless it can happen during the cutscenes

It’s still very bugged. Very irritating to not finish and have to pay to get repairs. I have tried going around to the other side via outside of the instance and still no luck.

As alternative, maybe have the players escort the researchers out of the cave and back to the main entrance with the group?

Only way to beat this quest is for Trahearne to NOT DIE at any point. If he dies, even once, at any point, then he will stop following you and you won’t be able to complete. If he stops following you(usually due to him dying but not always), then you can’t complete the quest. It’s a game breaking bug and I have no idea how it made it to release like this. Did the designers not test or pre-play this quest even once? If anyone played it, even once, then they would have easily saw this quest-breaking bug that forces you to reset. This is a VERY BROKEN STORY quest that seems like it wasn’t play tested at all.

So… doing the quest… Well keeping this useless elf alive is a lot easier said than done because this specific instance easily aggros Undead in 5-10 groups that will downright slaughter you solo. Once you drop, Trahearne is next. I’m a WARRIOR with huge AoE damage, heavily armored, and I still can’t pull enough weight or take enough hits to protect this guy. So I then found a Rogue to double queue with which I’ve repeatedly tried and we STILL couldn’t complete it! What happens is Trahearne aggros a nice pile of trash then gets us all killed; every single time. When we do survive, he does not, thus we still have to reset.

We then got a THIRD person just so we can brute force this stupid kitten hard enough to succeed. It took 3 people to do what was suppose to be a SOLOABLE quest.

Most stupid quest I ever had to do. I hope it is fixed before my next toon reaches it. I shudder at the thought of having to go through all that again.

Did this mission a couple minutes ago, had the EXACT same problem. Everybody teleported outside when I got around to rescuing the second team. However, after ragequitting once and jumping back into it, I managed to do it.

The problem seemed to be after you fight the horde that appears when you find the first team. When you have beaten it, just hug the wall as close as possible on the way over to the cave. Otherwise, Trahearne will go into combat with the enemies and stop following you inside. When he gets around to either dying or killing the enemies he will just stand around outside and you will have to quit the quest and try again.

Just remember to NOT let him anywhere close to the enemies outside and you should be good to go.

I can confirm that this is still bugged, i managed to get to the very end with the cinematic before the big dude but then Trahearne was gone when i had to talk to him after defeating the big dude.

I think only if you are in party you can do it fine, but protect Trahearne.

Add me to the list. The NPCs will randomly charge into a group of 5+ mobs, then stand around and watch as they all run straight to me. After I’m dead, Trahearne is next – and at that point, the quest is impossible to complete.

This instance and the map it is in is really buggy on Desolation EU. The respawn rate of mobs in this instance is ridiculous and Trahearne’s AI needs a good going over. Can barely get through to the first part without Trahearne dying and can’t get in to res him due to the army of risen that all seem to aggro me as soon I step foot past the arch and even when I do get him resed he just stands looking at his giant sword.
