The Bug
In Cursed Shore map “Against the Corruption” Personal Story bugged, I’m supposed to escort Marshal Trahearne inside the tomb, I tried the quest 3 times
First time If one of the NPC group dies when i revive them, they vanish from the instance then when am at the Tomb door to go down, the NPC just stands there and stops moving
i went in alone and killed everything but he still doesn’t move
I re-tried the instance, non of the NCs died with me at the first ambush, then again, at the the tomb entrance they all stand and stop moving
tried to talk to everyone but nothing.
Please fix.

I dont know if this will work for you, but you can give a try, i also had the same problem that you have, then in the fifth try i manage to keep npcs alive, and i let silvary strat the attack s(i dont start any encounter, i let him do that). And the mish continued without problems (until the end when some textures dissapeared :/)… but the thing is that the bug maybe can be bypassed with this. i completed the mission.

I tried to do the mission again, It’s totally messed up
at some point at the tomb entrance i let the mobs kill all the NPCs
then i let it kill myself 5 times
and then a cut scene happen saying that mission was a success and i need to talk to the NPC to choose a course of action
So i kill the mobs, rez the NPC and talk to him and choose where i wanna go but still no update cuz i can’t escort him down the tombs still
Please fix guys

tried 2 times, Trahearne always stop moving (i am escorting him) when he begin to descend the stairs to the tomb. If i start a fight later he does go and fight, but go back to the same spot as soon as the fight end and dont keep moving.
Very sad to after ours on that insane respawn Orr(which is just making the game complete unfun to me) stay stuck in a escort quest. I left and came back 2 times and he always seens to stuck there.
Is this a know issue?

OK! it just been “debugged” after I posted this and posted in-game.
I’ve waited about 30 mins I guess but Trahearne did follow me at a certain point and the instance was completed even before I kill the 10 last mobs who spawn during Trahearne’s ceremonial.
so we can close this topic!
I wont delete it to let know people this storyline (level 80 | Against the corruption) can be completed in “some” way
NPCs stop moving outside the tombs, I cleared everything and they won’t go forward -.-
I also have this bug and can’t advance into the tomb since the NPC’s are taking a smoke break outside.

Any Update ANet on this quest guys or when will it be fixed?
I tried this quest 3 times in a row resulting in the same exact scenario.
Basically you have a squad and you have to lead them to a certain check point. After a boss they stop following you completely and the next part of the story won’t trigger because the NPCs won’t follow you after that point.
Hope this gets fixed soon because I can’t advance my personal story otherwise
Tried it 2 times. First time all my troops stop really early. Can run to the entrance of the tomb and kill some of the spectral guards near to the abomination(I think it was spectral guards or something like that ant then later some other guys spawned). Then running back and forth and killing some undead a bit at the side and then my troops start moving.
Ambush… almost all my people die. Of course not rezzable. Only me and 3 other named guys and 1 vigil guy. Other troops permadeathed. Somehow I manage to kill the abomination. Going in with Trahearne. I died to one of the spectral juggernaut guys. Running back their and killing them. Rezzing Trahearn. Moving forward. At some point he stops moving when everything is cleared and no other mob nearby.
…
Restarted the mission. Again same but I kill that zombie at the side nearby in the beginning early and move on to the ambush. All my troops die again. Then I somehon cant manage to kill the abominaton. It always respawns the 3 other mobs. Of course I die. Can’t rez my 3 other guys(or they always die soon). And the abomination iskittenus.
Costing too much gold. Waiting for the fix. I hope they will fix it. Impossible to continue the story with only a few useless allies against abomination that is immune to my knockdown skills that usually help against ordinary veteran mobs.
And restarted again. Managed to survive the ambush with losing only guy. And killing the abomination and losing 2 more guys. Still a lot left. But now this time he is standing in front of the tomb.
Edit: Tried again… and this time I walked behind Traherne and let him lead. If he did not move again after a fight where he was behind me after the fight to regoupt I just walked a bit to him and then after he started moving followed slowly behind him. And tried to keep as many troops alive as possible.
Strange thing: This time we all went in. It somehow skipped that dialoge I got at one of my earlier tries where he tolde the 2 named guys to wait outside. Then later at defending it stopped while still fighting. Dialogue. After that killing the remaining enemies and one of those 2 named was there if I saw it correctly – as enemy and risen. So I think they really are supposed to wait outside and then get killed and attack us. But yeah… skipped that part where he had to tell them to wait outside.
But finished now. Nice level 78 yellow weapon that I can use.

Same here. NPCs stand and do nothing after I kill the Abomination in front of the cave enterance.
Just adding that I’m currently experiencing the same issue. Trahearne stops moving on the stairs entering the tomb after the Abom is killed.
I’ve got the same issue as well, come on ANet, it’s been almost a week since this was reported, get it fixed please…
The NPCs don’t follow you. I can’t get past “Escort Trahearn to the Royal Tombs.”

This quest is so seriously bugged, I get different errors each time i try it. Sometimes the cut scene triggers during the ambush telling me that the ritual has worked and then we stuck outside the cave. Sometimes it does not trigger but we cannot pass through the Abomination because his Risen companions don’t stop spawning…6 times failure..fix this pls!
ok I finally made it. Trahearne must never die during the mission. Put all your AoE up, full damage and try to kill as many as possible very fast. If you manage to keep everyone alive you will finish it…good luck till its fixed!
No its entirely random. I just finished it too and Trahearne died once to the elite guarding the entrance.
Same issue here. And frankly it’s disgusting that this hasn’t been fixed yet. It shouldn’t be random, it shouldn’t require you to have everyone survive, it shouldn’t require you to jump, it shouldn’t require you to “make sure you don’t get ahead”. It should be a number one priority since it has to do with the “main” quest. Frankly gross that this issue is over 4 days old now.

This bug is known for at least 1 week and still not fixed.
I’ve wasted almost 3 hours and tons of cash to repair my armor for that quest until I just gave up.

Also having the same problem, although in one of my attemps, a cutscene triggered for no reason. I assume it’s the cutscene that happens after you finish escorting Trahearne, except I was still at the entrance and everybody was dead. Then nothing happened.
I’ll just add that I have the same problem (Trahearne and other NPCs won’t proceed past the tomb entrance – even without any of them having been downed at all up until that point). I’ve tried a few times over the last day or so to no avail.
Also, as other have stated, if any of the Vigil escorts are defeated in combat they die permanently, so if you screw up one fight it makes the subsequent battles much more difficult.
Other than that, this is basically a bump to make sure ArenaNet are aware of this and get it fixed ASAP
I also have this problem. After clearing the big undead group at the entrance to the tunnel, Trahearne won’t move. Unlike other people, however, I am able to resurrect any of the NPC’s if they die. Still, I can’t get Trahearne to move to the tomb so I’m unable to progress.
As the title suggests I get the the royal tombs in the Cursed shore, and we get towards the entrance… The first few times I’ve done this, the first bug was getting to the entrance of the tomb and got wrecked and disconnected. I noticed during that fight more mobs spawn. which isn’t a bad thing, but during my 2nd time without good ole’ internet issues, that additional spawn squence happened in the craft between the ridge as your turn from the base camp. Okay I killed those and rezzed the NPC’s and went to face the abomination no big deal got through that, and their is the bug entailed. I cleared the entire tomb up to the second green start, but it still said escort treehearne or however you spell his name. So I ran back outside and tried to talk to each npc, I dragged a couple of bad guys and made them fight them. That skipped the second part of some kind of ritual ending that failed and a decision of what to do next; but the second part of the quest was still needing to be fixed. Attached screen shot shows what it pointed to before I ran out of the area and gave up. I’ll keep trying a few more times to see if things continue to change or not
Still the same problem.
Occasionally I’ll get what I assume is the cutscene you’d get at the end during the fight with the abomination to enter the tomb. Happened when everybody was dead and I was down.
Other times Trahearne will never move from the beginning unless I make sure I’m behind him. But, then he’ll stop at random again anyway. I think your position in relation to him in regards to first walking up and pressing ‘f’ may affect this.
If I die at any point during the first ambush battle, the Pact NPCs all instant-die and remain dead forever, making the fight with the abomination impossible since the 3 named NPCs are useless and die and if you try to pull the mobs they reappear eventually when killed. It’s all a hard fight anyway since I’ve never had the un-named NPCs -not- remain dead without chance for revival. Intended or another bug?
I wouldn’t call all of this ‘one’ bug. Seems to be many bugs…I hope this is why it’s nearly a week old problem that’s yet to be resolved.
Third times a charm however, a few waiting around standing next to trehearne but the quest completed this time. I’ll leave this here and give Anet’s QA team the opportunity to look it over and decided if it’s worth looking into.

Still not working. Somehow I feel to be ignored.
More and more people are getting into the high-level parts of the personal story. Instead of fixing meaningless bugs with events they should finaly fix the personal story because it’s the main part of the game in pve. I don’t even care about events. I just want to play the story. Next time they better release a game only when it’s done.

same problem here. they do not want to enter the tombs. they are afraid of whats inside ?
They follow if you go back to Trahearn…BUT you can clear the zerg at the narrow pass and your NPcs kamikaze on the abomination and adds!! then you get a cutscene about the ritual (which has not yet taken place since Trahearn gets KIA at entrance) .After cutscene your thrown back into the impossible to solo fight at entrance (since mobs respawn ).
Atre we doing something wrong here or is it indeed bugged?
In the briefing cutscene it says the Norn and Sylvari will guard the entrance, but nonetheless you get the cutscene about the ritual at the entrance.
The Agents despawn on death.

Only Traehearn goes into the tomb. The rest stay outside, die and then ambush you later.
If you can get Traehearn inside to start the ritual, then keep him alive until its finished, the mission -should- complete.
At least that is how it work for me when I did it and then helped a guild member.

Gah – wish there was something you could do in-game to stop us wasting time trying missions that are broken. I just hit this same problem trying to play it myself. Do we really have to keep coming and searching the forum for every mission before we try it? Is hugely frustrating to spend time trying to play these missions only to find you can’t finish anyway because of known bugs :/
I’m seriously getting miffed at this point, the previous story for me was super bugged as well and now this one as well.
1. It’s completely over-tuned you and your companions are ambushed by 10 or so undead, Trahearne WILL die every time if you let him “pull” but with some effort you can do it and ress him – you need to stay back though or you will fail (as a ranger).
2. the story sometimes bugs here and Trahearne will just stand around doing nothing.
3. if 2. doesn’t happen Trahearne will run into yet another ambush + pull the ones in front of the entrance which will also wipe your party.
I’m very underwhelmed with the testing on this storyline (and now I can’t even afford to repair my armor).

Just after a few hours around Orr i play naked because the costs for repairs are ridiculous and it’s so hard for me that I die at least once in 10 minutes. I can’t afford the repairs.
Back to topic. I stoped playing until the bug is fixed.
Okay, after 25+ attempts, I finally managed to get through this quest. Here’s my step-by-step – YMMV.
Summary: The mission is to escort Trahaerne to the tombs. You will get in lots of fights, which were generally very hard (three main points where you may die), and if things don’t pan out well then you can experience a number of bugged points.
Steps:-
1) Talk to Trahaerne (T from now on) to kick off the story.
2) He will start zig-zagging down the hill. Follow him about 1-2 persons length away. Let him initiate combat where possible. At the bottom of the hill there's a mob on the left which he bypasses - once he is level with it, you can initiate combat - I'd recommend you do so. There's then another bad-guy in the gulley when you turn right, again let him initiate combat.
2-bug) If T gets stuck during 2 any time, try walking up hill 5-10 lengths away, then run down hill and through T. This tends to unstick him
3) Mob fight 1: When you have killed the mob in the gulley, T will run forward and trigger ~10 mobs around you. Therefore, as soon as this mob is killed, I'd recommend laying traps etc around the gulley (remaining behind T). Your overall aim here is to keep the non-named NPCs and yourself alive - not an easy task. It's not uncommon to die here. If you do, I've been able to respawn and carry on from here - T gets stuck later but I don't think it's related.
4) Following this fight, T will walk out of the gulley, and turn right into the valley. If you stay far enough back, he will pause just after leaving the gulley, allowing you time for your elite skill timeout to expire.You _will_ need everything in your arsenal for the next bit, or at least I did.
5) When you turn into the valley, you’ll find a number of mobs. T will run right up to them before commencing an attack. Mob fight 2: You can't kill the weaker mobs, die, respawn, and repeat - if you don't kill the risen abomination then they respawn also. I recommend targetting the risen abomination (big b*stard) right from the start. Really easy to die here, especially if all your non-named NPCs died in fight 1.
5-bug) This is the most common area for cataclysmic bugs. If it occurs, you’ve no choice but to log off and restart the entire mission from scratch – this can lead to losing a lot of money due to having to get your kit repaired – you have been warned. I found the following tricks worked. a) If T is down, but a couple of mobs are still fighting, if you rez T then he will join in and then not bug. b) If T is down, but you’ve killed all the enemy, then as long as other named NPCs are down, you can rez T first. He will rez the others (help if you want), and then continue.
6) After the fight,T will tell the others to remain outside and guard the tombs, and will go inside. Follow him. Again, stay behind T and let him initiate combat.Unfortunately, he's a complete imbecile and so walks into every ambush going. This can lead to you dying. If you need to respawn, from my experience, you're screwed.
6-bug) I experienced the same bug a couple of times here, and am not 100% on causes. On the stairs inside the tomb on one run, I had a couple of NPCs with me – not sure if that was the cause. I also tended to run ahead through the ambushes, pushing back mobs and using AoE. Whilst that kept me alive, T got stuck. The lesson – stay behind T and let him initiate combat.
7) After the exitting the stairs, I didn’t experience any other sticking bugs.The end section itself is a bit weird, full of non-sequitors (the rite fails, you say it seemed to work for a while, but as a player I've seen no such evidence). Also you're told to chat with T but there's still mobs transporting in, including one mob he's still recommending you chat to - very weird.
8) You’re done. And good luck on the next mission, as I’ve heard (haven’t played it yet) it can also be buggy…
TL;DR: Walk behind Trahaerne, let him initiate combat, rez before combat ends if possible, rez him first if multiple named NPCs die during combat.
