Personal Story wrong path?
No, and it is not really a bug.
Between a light in the darkness and the first Apatia story you likely have been in a personal story instance that was started by someone else. When you at the end accept to continue your own story to the same result you choose to take over all elements off that story line. This includes a different thing chosen at the end of a light in the darkness. So this can very well be e.g. retribution.
At this point there is nothing that can be done bout it. If this issue was found before doing forging the pact, you could have looked for someone to lead the instance that is on the right ‘greatest fera’ to get back on that track. But at this point you are stuck with it.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I highly disagree that this is not a bug.
Me and this same person have been playing as the same characters through the same story since well before the first battle for Claw Island. I, personally, made the choice that both of our characters would play through the Tonn storyline. I also lead the personal stories for the defense of Vigil Keep and the retaking of Claw Island. The only story that his character (who, remember, accepted my choice of the Tonn storyline) lead was the Forging of the Pact. So unless there is some way that during that storyline his character was able to switch his “fear” then I don’t see why the story should have given us the wrong path. And since this is the game doing something wrong, I personally consider it a bug.
If this won’t get fixed, I’ll have to delete my character and start from freakin’ scratch all because the game system decides for me what my storyline is, not myself apparently. Oh, and screw being a coop game, never play with friends because even though you’ve both made ALL of the exact same story choices, the game will decide to screw something up…
Is is and isn’t a bug. The issue is, after Forging the Pact, the next story step is determined by the fear of the main player. (The person who started that story instance.) If you had a different fear, but choose to accept progress for Forging the Pact, it will make your next quest step the same as the other player’s to keep you both together.
Yes, but this is what confuses me. I was playing on the same character, and he was playing on the same character, that we both chose the “death of an innocent” path on. We both chose the same path (I chose it personally, and he selected to accept it), so why would the game give us a different path? Even though he started the Forging the Pact story, he had already selected to agree with choosing the “death of an innocent” path and thus we SHOULD still be on that page…
If he chose a different fear in the dialogue, it would have set that fear. Choosing to accept story progress does NOT change your actual chosen fear, but it will change the storyline you’re put on. My best guess is that he never actually chose a fear, so it will default to the Apatia storyline.
Unfortunately, they can’t fix it.
I had mine switch from Tonn onto Apatia for the Defending Fort Trinity and final step, way back when the game released (despite never doing Personal Story with anyone else). Liberating Apatia is still there on my character, taunting me.
I guess I didn’t realize that he had the option to choose his own fear. In most personal stories, if you are the “sidekick,” for lack of a better term, you don’t have the option to talk with NPC’s or interact with most stuff. Almost everything has to be done by the party leader. Because of this, I had assumed if I chose something it would account for him as well (which I believe he assumed also). I guess it’s time to hit the whole character delete button and count my two lvl 400 crafting trades, cultural armor, and personal story up til this point as a waste… That or completely abandon the story I have created for my character which, I’ll be honest, kinda depended on that story… No easy choices…
