Hello there

Me and my friend were playing our stories together so far. His party, then my part and so on. I chose Durmand Priory and he chose Order of Whispers. When we started my level 40 story chapter in Lion’s Arch and completed the first part, he suddenly had the exact same story as i did. Suddenly he was in the Durmand Priory, too.
From then on we also noticed that you can make progress in your story, too, even if your helping someone else out.

In short: After helping me out his decisions got switched and he got a copy of mine.

If a player accepts the instance owner’s progress (decisions) at the end of a story arc, they will be placed on the same storyline as said instance owner.

The player can move back to their original storyline at the end of the next arc, providing they do not accept another instance owner’s progress.
