I apologize if I missed some random update removing this, either way so I just did my monthly tasks and got my 10 liquid karma jugs and used my booster + saffron food and banner for a total of 60% more karma gain. However, I did still only get 4500 karma for each jug which is the normal amount you should get.

So my question is if they did some sneaky update where they removed karma boosting for the karma items or is it a bug?

Okay so my friend just tested a thing for me, he used a drop of liquid karma with the guild banner boost and it worked, but when he used food that gives 5% more karma it did not, so my theory is that the food prevented the karma banner and my booster from actually working.

+ karma bonuses stack, maximum you can have is +90%, which results in one jug giving 7500 karma, boosters don’t stack with bonfire boosts, and banners don’t stack with other banners. I have no idea why you only got 4500 if you say you had a bonus.

Here is what I used for karma boost in order:

Guild karma banner 5%

Karma booster 50%

Bowl of Saffron-Mango ice Cream 5%

This should have given me around 7k something karma and I instead only got 4.5k for the liquid karma jugs.

Testing my theory about food possibly messing it up

With banner I get 420 karma from drop of liquid karma

With karma booster and banner I still only got 420 karma

with Saffron + booster + banner I still only got 420 karma

They were used in order of:

Karma banner

Karma booster

Saffron mango ice cream

I encountered the same issue last night. Normally when I have bonfire, guild, banner & ice cream karma buffs, I can get around 8K from a jug. Last night I got all those buffs, downed one jug that got me around 5K and I stopped. I didn’t know if it was a nerf, a bug or what. But I didn’t want to use any more until I know.

ANet, intentional, or bug? Please let us know as soon as you can.

I’m fairly sure it’s a bug as I decided to check all the patch notes from 26th of feb and forward; and it said nothing about it.

I also used karma boosts for the karma items I got back from the orrian boxes and it worked fine, after that there has been no nerfs in any of the patches.

Ok, this is kinda strange. After i took note of this thread I tried it out myself with drops of liquid karma in the following order:

working as expected
not working as expected

Main char (lvl80):

1. no boost: 400 (expected: 400)
2. 15% karmic infusion: 400 (expected: 460)
3. 5% buff food: 400 karma (expected: 420)
4. 15% karmic infusion + 5% buff food: 400 (expected: 480)

Then I logged to another char (lvl4), where I knew I had a 50% boost and a 10% banner-boost on:

5. 50%-boost + 10% banner: 640 karma (expected: 640)

Then I logged back to my main, and tried again:

6. 5% buff food: 420 (expected: 420)
7. 15% karmic infusion + 5% buff food: 420 (expected: 480)
8. 50% boost + 5% buff food: 420 (expected: 620)
9. 50% boost + non-karmic buff food: 420 (expected: 600)
10. 50% boost + 10% banner + non-karmic buff food: 420 (expected: 640)

Then I restarted the game and logged back on to my main:

11: 50% boost + 10% banner + non-karmic buff food: 640 (expected: 640)
12: 15% karmic infusion + 50% boost + 10% banner + non-karmic buff food: 640 (expected: 700)
13: 50% boost + 10% banner + 5% buff food: 640 (expected: 660)

Then I restarted the game again and logged back on to my main:

14: 50% boost + 10% banner + 5% buff food: 660 (expected: 660)
15: 15% karmic infusion + 50% boost + 10% banner + 5% buff food: 660 (expected: 720)

Then I went to character select and just logged right back on to my main:

16: 15% karmic infusion + 50% boost + 10% banner + 5% buff food: 720 (expected: 720)

So, since there is no real pattern, which combination of karma boosts is working and every single karma boost I tried has worked at least in one of the combinations, I would guess, that only karma boosts that were already activated when logging on to that char will work, no new ones in that session. The new ones will however work as soon as you relog on to that char.

Also: since with the other types of boosts it’s way more complicated to test out, we shouldn’t ignore the possibility that this bug affects other types of boosts as well (magic find, experience, crafting and so on, maybe even the “normal” buff food effects?)

Any word on whether this has been fixed? I’m about to hit 80 on my Mesmer and per my usual practice I drink up the karma needed and zip off to the temples to get my first exotics.

Though there may be less zipping involved as I have been leveling on Southsun and so will have to explore my way through Orr …

No official response yet. Whether here nor in the german forum or ingame. Since it’s not a show-stopper, I guess it will take some time, until they’ll investigate and fix it. But it’d be nice to know if they at least took note of it yet.

I didn’t do an in-depth test. But I did try it without the food buff. It wasn’t as high as I would have expected, but it was pretty close. Much closer than when I used the food buff and it was roughly 3,000 karma too low.

Have you been looking at your actual Karma total as well? There have been bugs in the past where the effect of boosts/banners weren’t showing up for the karma pop-up when completing events and the like, but the correct amount was added to your karma total.

Yes, I did check how much karma I had at the end, I used 10 liquid karma jugs with 60% boost and I had just recently bought orrian boxes so I had 1k something before I used them and after I had somewhere around 46k

Last night, Monday June 3rd, 50% karma boost did not affect jugs or events.
333 karma for killing a keeper in Mount Maelstrom, pretty sure that’s standard
without boost, 4.5k for the daily/monthly karma jugs.

Hmm, so there may be indeed be a bug then. Make sure to report it using the ingame /bug command, because that’s where the Support staff look for bug reports first.

@OP: nice work documenting the steps you took to troubleshoot. Very convincing evidence that something is whacked. Thanks for taking the extra time.

Confirmed this is still bugged. Tried both with 15% neck and 10% banner buff and buffs are not being applied to consumable karma items.

I just used a karma bonus and a booster banner and clicked through 5 jugs before I realized that there was no boost effect from the karma bonus, 75 gems and 5 jugs wasted. Are we supposed to submit a bug ticket for this?

I would advise you to do that. The more tickets there are with the same subject, the sooner they will take notice of it. And by now they obviously didn’t…

The bug’s still there. I did the in-game ticket as suggested. Though apparently Orr is deserted just now (unusual on Tarnished Coast) and so I cannot possibly get up the stairs to the Arah entrance to get the wp anyway.

I experienced this bug yesterday. Bug report filed, but I still missed out on bonus karma before I realised my karma booster was having no effect, and the 75 gems paid for it effectively went straight down the mystic toilet. Not impressed, but what’s one more bug to add to the number hanging around since launch?

I found a work around for this the other night. Basically I applied each buff one at a time and performed an Exit To Desktop after each. Then when I logged back in each buff was counted provided I didn’t switch characters or maps and was able to achieve the full +95% bonus.

I already mentioned that workaround in my post 6 days ago. Also you don’t have to exit to desktop. It’s enough to go to the character selection screen and relog back onto the according char. And you don’t have to relog for each buff individually. It’s enough to relog once when all wanted buffs are activated.

And switching characters or maps doesn’t affect the buffs negatively. It’s just that only those buffs are counting, that already were applied before logging onto a character.

I tried just logging to character select and back again, but it didn’t work for me for some reason.

Did my monthly karma-drinking-contest yesterday. Still the same issue. Had to go to char selection and relog onto the char after activating all the karma-boosts (this time including the 15% guild-boost as well). Before that they didn’t work.

Could someone from ANet please at least acknowledge it so we don’t have to post the same thing over and over again? Would appreciate that…

Please, at least give us an answer whether it will be possible to boost karma gain from jugs by using karmic infusion, or I can delete that amulet. Thank you

It is possible. You just have to put on the amulet, activate all other wanted karma boosts, go to char selection and relog onto the char. Then drink the karma jugs. It still works as intended if you use that workaround.

WOW! This has been going on for at least 15 days now and hasn’t been fixed or acknowledged by ANet? Come on! I just spend my karma jugs today and lost out on a lot of karma because i didn’t know there was even a problem.

I tried this workaround that others have said and it still hasn’t fixed the problem. Come on, would like to be able to buy my Obsidian Shards/Armors.

The workaround has as of yet worked for everybody I have talked to about this issue.

To rule out every misunderstanding:

1. Login on the char with which you want to get the karma.
2. Apply every karma boost you want to use (use foods/boosters/banners/karma fires, put on an amulet with karma infusion, activate guild karma boost).
3. Log out at least to the char selection screen.
4. Choose the same character again and log back in.
5. Drink the karma jugs and/or get karma by doing events.

Thank you for raising this, I haven’t drunk much Karma in the past when affected by boosts but I will take this into consideration for the future. I hope somebody from ArenaNet looks into this and we get a fix sooner rather than later, unlikely I know.

I’m still leery of this workaround, but I’ll try to gather up the boosts on my newest 80 and test. Worst case scenario, I use more of my 150 jugs than I want to …

Good news! I did a test this morning, and a jug gave me boosted karma. So I dropped a fire and a banner, nibbled a booster and a chocolate bar, and swigged away with bonuses. No relog needed.

I was at +65% and got 7200 per jug, I hope that math works out.

Yesterday, sometime between the time of 530 pm CST and 7 pm CST, I was in Lion’s Arch and chose to use up all of the Karma Items I had used. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but I know I had 71 Jugs of Liquid Karma, and more than 100 drops of liquid Karma.

I also had the following boosts active: 10% From Guild Banner, 15% From guild Karma buff, 5% from Ice Cream (Food) buff, and 50% From the Karma Booster (Not Bonfire, just the booster). I began with approximately 50k karma, and ended with just under 600k.

Now according to my math, from just the jugs alone, I should have gotten 581490, which would have put me well over 600k Karma. Again this is does not include the more than 100 drop of liquid karma (which would have netted another 70,000 karma) Add on to that all the others I had, including Tastes, Vials, Swigs, Sips, Kegs, and the Encrypted Thank you letters…i should have had more than 550k gained from the entire process.

Actually it doesn’t work out, since with +65% you should have gotten 7425 per jug. So there’s at least 5% missing in this case.

Also: the bonfire and the booster give the same buff. They don’t stack. You shouldn’t use both since it’s a waste.

And as long as you don’t tell us the exact steps of your tests and don’t even check the math yourself, I will remain leery of your results. Where did the initial boost come from and why did you have to use boosts afterwards if you already had working boosts? How much did you get out of this first jug? Also 7200, right?

I assume the following:

You already had some boosts (60% in total) active from your last session with this character. They don’t run out, when you’re not playing the specific character. And they were working, because you logged out and in after applying the boosts, be it knowingly and intentional or not. It doesn’t matter, if there’s a minute or a week between logging out on a character the last time and logging back in on the same character the next time. That’s why your inital jug showed a working boost. All following boosts you applied (should have been 65%), actually didn’t change anything for the jugs you drank directly afterwards. Those new boosts would have worked, if you had relogged after applying them. They could be working when you log on to that character the next time if you have logged out before their time ran out..

This would fit exactly with the behaviour that I observed.

Well foo… I wish I had seen this thread before I used the 480K worth of karma items I had hoarded in my bank :/

is this bug still active? because I used more than 100 jugs of karma and every karma-thing I had (for example of the living story) with about 60% more karma-boost, but I didn’t pay attention wether I got the bonus or not – if not I lost a lot more than 270.000 karma (4500×100×1.6-4500×100). and I wanted to start a new round of karma-drinking soon.
Hopefully they will fix this in the next patch if they didn’t till now

It does look like this has been fixed- I just took a Drop of Liquid Karma, right after eating a bowl of ice cream(5% boost), and got 432 Karma, instead of just 400

Just opened my whole cache of karma goodies.
2100000 worth at 85% instead of 95%.
Dispite multiple Searches for info without success i caried on.
So no, the bug is still there. I always have to search google to find info on
this wiki. So what a waste.

I’ve seen similar bugs with certain effects not being counted—in those cases logging to character select and back in resolved the issue; all boosts and buffs were accounted for.

Today I was hoping to get 55% bonus on my karma jugs with the Karma Booster and chocolate. Went through 10 jugs and realised I didn’t get even close to the total amount I should of. I wish I was aware of this bug in the first place, otherwise I would of checked! Whats even more interesting, I used a crafting booster aswell, and that didnt work either….. who knows… I just want my karma jugs back :’(
