Quest NPCs Not Fighting
This has been an issue for months. They broke it with an update, and have apparently decided it’s not important enough to bother fixing it.
I’m sure it gives a great impression to newer players just starting their personal story.
Well, it’s a bit to late now to be really complaining about it to much…got one character at 67 and can manage missions on my own now. Thanks for the info. Thought it was just me.
The Devs purposely adjusted the NPC AI in this manner. Though, they have stated that they will take a look at certain instances.

Uhm…why? Are those NPCs supposed to be there to back you up in the storyline instances? Why are they there then to just stand there and do nothing? Earlier I played, for the first time Cadacauses Manor and every ally NPC that was there to fight fought…so why not for the personal storyline instances like when I fought the first battle on Claw Island? Curious is all…I know I could always call on someone for help if need be but still frustrating to see an NPC that’s supposed to help just stand there and watch me either fight or get beaten.
Because the Devs felt the NPCs were giving too much aid in instances.
You should be able to use Google to find the Dev statements, either here or on Reddit, should you so desire. I’m afraid I don’t recall which platform.
