Q:

Hey,
I was wondering, when checking in between characters, that the Precision attribute, namely, the Base Precision, didn’t give any stats whatsoever, that is, what is it for?

Why? Because my lvl 2 thief has 28 Base Precision and it gives 4% Critical Chance, and my lvl 35 ranger has 256 Base Precision and it gives 4% Critical Chance. Is it supposed to be like that?

Now as far as the Additional Precision goes I also have this question as far as the formula for the Critical Chance goes:

On your wiki it says that: ‘The amount of additional precision required to increase the chance of a critical hit by 1% is determined by the following formula:
0.0025 * Level^2 + 0.05 * Level + 1’

So I did the math for my ranger which has a total of 515 Precision (256+259) and 47% Critical Chance:

0.0025 * 35^2 + 0.05 * 35 + 1 = 5.8125

259 / 5.8125 = 44.5591

So, 44.5591 + 4% (from Base Precision) = 48.5591%. Which is not what I have at all!

Is the attribute Precision bugged?

Thanks and happy gaming!

A:

The value of base precision scales with level and always gives 4% critical chance. So yes, this is correct.

You calculated 48.5591% instead of 47% because the formula is incorrect. The formula you have obtained from the wiki was not provided by ArenaNet and is the result of one user’s trial and error data to get a rough calculation. If you have calculated a more accurate formula feel free to update the wiki article.
