Guild Wars 2

So I just restarted playing GW2 after an extended absence (spawned by a moderator basically telling me to buy a new computer since I was having memory overflow errors on a decent video card that should run the game but since my system was 32-bit, it kept happening and froze the game too often to make it enjoyable).

I have a new computer and have been loving the game. I got on my ranger and started hunting pets and found that the name went away when I switched pets and if I get a new one, IE the blue moa I just got, is now named Scooby Doo when that is supposed to be my Krytan hounds name.

I come from WoW land and WoW now bores me but at least I could name my pet and the name stayed attached. I get the concerns raised by Arena but they’re really not relevant if you’re giving a decent game experience. I am amazed this is not fixed after two years, or that it was the “intended” way it was planned to work.

Now my urge to go pet gathering is stifled because although it might be cool to have all the pets, having juvenile Krytan hound follow me around is plain laughable. You already tick a bit somewhere to show I got the pet, it would take a few more bits on another table to link it’s name. You don’t need another database for pet names.

And even if you do, these little things are the finishing touches that make a great game. They were details that WoW did NOT leave out and that’s likely why it’s still played by millions of people to this day. If GW2 or its predecessor want to take down the giant and really grab a huge part of the market, they likely need to include these little extras .

I know this topic is closed, but I really don’t care. I want to let you know it’s still annoying and should be fixed.

I don’t think it’s a closed topic. When the game launched, they used programming/data-storage shortcuts to get it out the door on time. It takes a lot more storage to allow the possibility of 45 ranger pet names for each of up to 64 characters on each current and future GW2 account. (Obviously, that exaggerates the likely scope.)

I’d like to recommend that you simplify the start of your post to include your request, and leave the rest as background to show why you think it’s important to the game.

You could have updated your OS (which is often free), instead of purchasing a new computer, but a new computer is always great!

Maining a Ranger, pet names that stick when changing pets would be nice, but they do stick when swapping, and between land and water pets. Having 45 pets names would be a nice QoL change, but I don’t find it game-breaking, as I tend to keep the same 4 pets most of the time.
