The “F2” pet utility skill is STILL bugged with no fix in sight!

If your pet is on ‘avoid combat’ and you trigger the pets utility skill, the pet shoult NOT go and attack! This defies the meaning of ‘avoid combat’.

You have two things you can do to fix this (well 3 things, unfortunately the 3rd seems to be the method employed: ignore the problem alltogether!).

1) You fix the issue and stop making the pet attack when it shouldn’t!
2) You create a 3rd pet mode. Guard=your pet attacks when you do, or defends you when you are attacked. Avoid Combat=Your pet does not attack when you do, nor defends but does attack when you trigger it’s utility skill. Passive=The pet NEVER attacks ever, unless specifically commanded to.

Also, while you’re looking at this please make pets useful and viable in PvE. And please don’t tell me they are, because they most certainly are not. DPS pets have NO survival and are completely useless.

Because we cannot dismiss out pets in combat when we need to (why isn’t this fixed either?!) the pet just stands there in all AOE like a dumb fool soaking up all the damage then dies. Then I have to waste a 60sec cooldown to get another pet, who instantly does the same thing and I’m stuck without a pet for a minute, only to repeat this over and over again. -.- The only sollution is to use the useless bear/tank pets that can take more than 1 hit, but bring NO useful buffs to improve my dps and do little damage. Since you kitten bow DPS and expect the pet to contribute a percentage of Ranger dps to bring this profession in line with other profession’s, then at least take the time to make pets useable.

Every time I even mention this in the game people roll their eyes, even Rangers and say “get on another character that works”.

Ya, know, we’re going on three years and Ranger has been the most broken prof since the beginning of the game – and I have been here since pre-release and have seen f2 and even our skills not working and not working and not working and not working………

Not keeping all IT jobs here is a major reason IT is so bad HERE. 33y IT 10y IT Security

This is STILL an ongoing issue and is being completely ignored!

I was doing Mai Train (Fractal) the other day, and specifically took the Brown Bear pet for the Condition Removal F2 skill it has. Yet, I was unable to remove conditions from the group with my pet! Why? Because every time I pressed F2, the pet immediately attacked the boss and ignored the utility skill! Even if you recall the pet, and press F2 again, it just rushes in to attack. I finally decided to let the pet attack the boss and see how long it’d take to cast it’s utility skill, if at all and it decided to cast it about 10seconds after attacking the boss, at a point when there were no conditions to remove!

This mechanic is so broken it’s not even funny anymore! I know pet F2 skills are “supposed” to trigger faster, and in most cases they do, but the pets are still attacking when they shouldn’t be!

The F2 skill is NOT an attack command (or shouldn’t be one!), it’s there to cast a skill. If the pet is on ‘avoid combat’ and you press F2, the pet should cast it’s skill and do nothing else. I cannot spell it out for you in any simpler terms!

Guys, I feel your pain with F2 in general.

With that said, there are two problems here:

1) Some pets, like the brown bear, cast their F2 skill only when they are within range of the target if you have an enemy selected when you hit F2. This is an obvious problem with the brown bear because his skill is beneficial to the Ranger and his party; therefore, he really shouldn’t run to the target and then cast his skill. A perfect example of this mechanic working correctly is with the fern hound and red moa. Because their F2 skills are beneficial to the Ranger, they pop their skill immediately where they are standing when the Ranger presses F2.

2) All pets to my recollection and testing (over the years) do go running off to a mob if a mob was targeted when F2 was pressed regardless if they popped their F2 skill immediately or when they got in range of a targeted mob. AND… all pets ultimately run off to the targeted mob regardless if they are set to passive or not, which, like you said, shouldn’t happen and I agree.

Side note:
About 6 months ago, I did some pet F2 testing and found that most pets will pop their F2 skill where they are standing if it’s beneficial to the Ranger, and most pets that do some kind of harm to enemies will run to the targeted enemy then pop their F2. However, there are bugs on both sides where pets are doing the opposite of what they should – like with the brown bear running to the enemy and then popping his F2 skill and the white moa popping his F2 skill (3s chill) where he’s standing.

The work around that I “try” to use is to make sure that I have no enemies selected before hitting F2 with certain pets that run off to the enemy before popping their F2 (or if I don’t want my pet to run to the enemy “at all”.) If I want a pet to run to the enemy that doesn’t before popping his F2 skill, like in the case with the white moa, I send him in first with F1 and then hit F2 when he’s in range.

I know, I know… these work-arounds are a pain in the kitten. But it’s an alternative way to try to get a positive result from a bugged mechanic. Maybe Anet will fix these things before the next ice age.

Well… that’s my 2… ummm… 5 coppers worth. (haha! )

GL all!
