I am guessing this is a bug.

Today I decided to check out what kind of things I would get out of the Ranger box. I am fine with getting stuff I don’t want to use. That’s the gamble of it. But imagine my surprise to find Berserker’s rifle of Water, an item rangers cant use. I was mildly annoyed.

I sent an ingame bug report but figured I would post here too as a warning to others.

It still confuses me that rangers can’t use rifles anyway, obviously it confuses Anet too

Thanks for the warning though, I was considering buying one earlier, now I think I’ll hold off a little bit.

Yea I never understood why we cant use rifles. Heres hoping someone fixes this issue. I wont be buying another box til I hear they have :/

Glad to hear it’s being looked into. I am assuming that I am sadly just out of luck with the laurels for the boxes?

Just a horrible answer though. You do nothing but promote this new ability to gain gear and get players pumped up.

Then you don’t give them the class specific items that is promised. The only answer is to not buy them? What about a refund to the poor players? This is 5 days of work to land the box..

Disable the ability to buy ASAP! So many players don’t hunt around the forums. I mean I almost bought one last night and I would have been #E$#% if I did.

Again disable it. Don’t hope someone stumble here to read a random post.

At least they could spread these kind of news via login launcher or by sending an ingame mail.
That way they could easily warn the players.

Here’s hoping we can keep this post up so people can keep seeing that it is bugged and dont lose the laurels like I did :/

Well, I wasn’t aware of this and I got scammed pretty good @ 11:15pm Eastern Time by receiving a rifle! Pretty angry about this. Since Anet knows of the bug they should 1) disable the feature until fixed properly and 2) Refund the lost laurels.

Is it just rangers though? They should just remove the boxes until a fix is put in place.

Even if the player who received items they cant use will get a refund, he can’t say that, because it will cause a new wave of player only getting the box in hope of getting an extra box a refund after the patch is fixed.

A few months ago there was a bug which caused the black lion chest to give fewer items than intended(2 instead of 3, or something like that). After they fixed the bug, players affected by this bug received via in-game mail a certain amount of unlocked black lion chests. I received one of those chests too so I’m pretty sure if someone received items they can’t use will get something to compensate that after the patch is fixed.

I am very bummed about my 2.5 days down the drain. I bought the ranger boxes, got a dagger that wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either. Then I got a rifle. What. And then I come here and find out its a known bug… I feel some what robbed.

Anet, please remove the boxes til this is fixed. And if possible please refund us that lost out because of this bug.

I think the point was that if the devs had opened up each box as a test before launch, the hunter bug would have instantly been caught.

Such an over-site implies that there is little to no testing before new content goes out.

This is silly, the testers could easily have opened dozens(if not hundreds) of boxes and simply not encountered a bug.

Why do ppl assume that RNG results are verifiable by one quick pass?

Because they don’t need to play the RNG game to see what comes out of a box. They should be able to look at “this is all of the stuff that could possibly come from that box.” The loot table for a given package is not a mystery to the developers.

Clearly it was an oversight, and these things do happen, so I’m not criticizing them for making a mistake. But don’t try to defend the “testers” with the RNG, it doesn’t make sense.

Fair enough, I agree with your point. Somehow missed that part of the quoted text.

As it was said before, they need to remove the boxes until the fix is done. There will be many effected by this and it will just cause more time to be spent by Anet in the long run.

Please let your friends and guildies know about this bug.

If I got an exotic that I couldnt use? Yes I would still say something. Because it’s not what I bought. I got a ranger box so I expected ranger gear.

In order to prevent players from encountering this bug while we work on a fix, we’ve disabled the Ranger chest from being opened for the time being. You will still be able to purchase the chest, but you will not be able to open it (and get weapons that you can’t use).

As soon as we have a fix for this bug, we will make the chest accessible again. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Bad solution. I just bought a -1 inventory slots upgrade for 5 laurels.

Are they reviewing all the other chests while they do this to the Ranger box? This makes me uneasy about buying boxes for other classes.

I bought with a few laurels one of the “Gear” box but when I try to open it I get the error “this content has been temporarily disabled”.

No, you need to wait for them to fix it. Other people that bought it reported receiving non-ranger items, so they disabled it until they fix it.

Another issue (that is indeed game breaking for many players) has lots of pages, thousands of replies and there is less communication from devs than in here.
So – compared to that – I would think your are provided quite good with information about what’s happening.
I think they will do their best to fix it (including a fix for the already opened ranger boxes) and update you again when they are ready. ^^
I feel very sorry for you, but it isn’t the biggest issue we have right now ingame that should be solved ASAP, is it?

For me, it IS game breaking. Not because of this incident specifically, but because of what a lack of a refund for a bug means.

Should I be afraid to spend gold on any new content, because I can’t trust that it won’t be bugged in some way? What if the bug had involved the mystic forge spitting out a gray instead of a legendary, would I still not be refunded? Should I be forced to look everything up on the forums to doublecheck that what I’m buying from a vendor is what I’m actually gonna get?
