- Enter any PvP match with your ranger as a spectator
- Spectate another ranger that has access to their pet
- Press “K” to open up pet management and select your two pets
- Enter a match or HotM to check if your pets will be summoned
Congratulations on figuring out a fix! Sadly, it arrived a little too late for me. Growing frustration at being unable to use my ranger for PvP, and at the lack of an any official response to the issue, led me finally to delete my ranger and create a new one. This has left me rather annoyed at the way this issue has been handled (or not handled).
When I entered pvp on my ranger after the Heart of Thorns beta was over I saw that my pet was gone. Not just my pet in general but also the pet menu which was bounded to the key “K”. It is only in pvp that my pet is gone, works fine in pve. I still have the “activate pet” button but no matter how many times i press it nothing happends.
This worked at first, but ANET went back and fixed that for us. So now, I don’t have a pet, yet again. THANK YOU ANET. I guess they don’t care about selling HoT too much. I’m not buying it unless this gets fixed before the game comes out, and we get some kind of compensation for this very inconvenient, and intentional mishap. I’m waiting to see if they care about the players or not. If not, Star Wars Battlefront comes out in November. I will just put my money there instead. I don’t know if this will work for everyone, but:

It seems the issue was that our pets were both removed. Since you can only access the pet management with an active pet(impossible with bug), the only alternative is to spectate another ranger. (doesn’t work for me anymore)

This just happened to me too, spent over an hour trying to figure it out.
ANET this breaks the class completely in sPvP and even carries over into WvW and PVE . How in the world have you not fixed this yet
5 hours later Update:
Happened again after fighting teq. ANET you wonder why Rangers are so salty, is because you are constantly putting the ranger class on the back burner HoT or not. Took less than 24 hours to buff & nerf to the ground a skill, but you can’t even respond to a game breaking bug in the past 18 days?
To enter spectator mode, go to a custom server (Play PvP, left column click Game Browser) and upon entering it will be on the top left. If there is no ranger in game, leave the server and find another.
I am honestly ROFLMAO right now because it took me 3attempts and on the 2nd attempt I actually found a ranger with the same bug so I couldn’t do the fix.
Just started having this problem, tried exiting the game completely twice and relog but no avail. You would think that a problem of this scale would be addressed by now in patch since it seems almost a month old reported issue but no.
Makes the ranger class virtually unplayable in spvp.
