Guild Wars 2

Last night I was involved in the group event for “Thaumanova Reactor” in Metrica Province. We downed the boss and I got some rewards, however, the only way I knew where to look for the rewards was to follow the crowd to a corner of the room.

No chest was visible, but if you wandered over the area, eventually the “search (f)” function popped up on the screen for you to use for the loot.

This is the third time I’ve done this event and that chest has NOT been visible at any of those times. I do not know why but it appears to be a bug.

For some reason none of the dragon events are giving me a reward chest. So frustrating, yet the wurm spawns everytime. Surely this must be a bug.

In the event I mentioned, a chest does spawn, it just is not visible. However, for the dragon events, I know from my own experience that if you do not do enough damage to the dragon, you will not see a chest spawn for you.

Although I am not sure if you get a chest if you get a bronze for your participation. Whenever I get a bronze for those particular events sometimes I will not get the chest although I get the xp for the bronze effort.

Not sure if that is a bug or not. I still cannot figure out the way loot is calculated for them.

I thought i was experiencing the same thing.
I now think the recent change to limit event rewards is the explanation.
… its not particular intuitive that the chest is simply invisible :-(

Where can I find the graphics file for you? I just ran a recent DxDiag file and have one available, but am not sure where to get the graphics info you require since I think my in-game graphics setting is different than my basic pc usage is.

Open guild wars 2, go to options, click graphics options, take a screenshot (printscreen)

Open your screenshots folder and the most recent screenshot will have the highest trailing number.

In order not to consistently be disconnected during heavy fights, I have lowered my graphic settings down to prevent that from happening. I still see the game as very vibrant, probably due to the type of graphics card/driver I have installed. This option also allows me to not encounter a lot of lag. Big help in boss fights.

I still see the chests for the dragon fights so not seeing the one for the fire elemental is unusual.

The dragon chest and fire elemental chest use different models, so it’s not completely unusual. But it is definitely still very odd.

I ran through the event a couple times with your graphics settings and was still able to see the chest, so it’s not that (or at least not that alone). I could be wrong, but it looks like your graphics card drivers are out of date, so I’d recommend updating those and then trying to run the event again.

Ok, will check those drivers then. But, as I mentioned before, I can still loot the chest even though I cannot see it…I just have to walk around that area before seeing that “search [F]” pop up to loot.

I have this problem as well unless I’m using minimal graphics. It’s like the chests are affected by culling sometimes.

I’ve definitely seen inanimate objects load more slowly than players & NPCs. Sometimes, arriving in asura gate hub in LA, all I see if the wooden platform; I don’t see the central platform or gates for a short time (this was especially noticeable during Wintersday).

Sometimes the chests need a few seconds until minutes to render for me. Especially the more player are there, the longer it needs. Groups <10 seems to be fine.
This happens only when culling is also a problem in pve. (And I never had this before the end of January update, it was then that I realized culling effetced me ^^)

If I do not see the chest (and I know it has to be there for me) I spam ‘F’ at the place where I assume it is. And it gives me my rewards.

When I do the maw event, it takes a few minutes for the chest to load on-screen, as does the shaman after he is dead, and the event is over. Sometimes it takes awhile for the ice elementals by the portals to load, sometimes not, but there is always a wait for the chest to load. I am able to loot the chest right away, but I have to wait to actually see it. It isn’t especially bothersome, as I know where it spawns.

Ive had a ton of times where an event chest never showed up until quite a while after the event finished, including dragon, maw, fire elemental, mega destroyer and shadow behemoth reward chests. Fortunately I know where they spawn. I run at max graphic settings.

lol I didnt even know that fire-elemental had a chest until I saw this post. I see a chest for every other event just not fire elemental. First time I done this I also followed the crowd to an empty spot in the room where lo and behold the (F) Loot option appeared. I just thought there wasnt a chest here until I saw this post

It happens to me time to time too, dont know why. On Megadestroyer and on Tequatl.

I am getting a bit confused now if Chests not spawning is a bug or supposed to be.

I did the Frozen Maw event with one char, the chest spawned, i got rewards.
A few hours later i did that event again with same char, this time no chest spawned.
I didnt see it, i assumed i didnt get one cos i did the event a few hours before with the same char.
A few hours after that, i did the Frozen Maw again with another char.
This time no chest again. Not spawned, as mentioned in this topic, check out the location where it should spawn and see if u get “F” option. Nope.

So…..bug?!

Chests are once per character per day. So, if you have five level 80 characters, you could do “the Claw of Jormag” five times in one day and get 5 chests.

I would try the following:
Under my documents is a folder “Guild Wars 2”. In it, should be a file, local.dat
Delete that file and launch the game.

If that doesn’t fix it, try running the repair utility with the -repair command.

Not sure yer reply was for me.
But, it is possible that with that second char i did the Frozen Maw before within 24 hours. I’ll try again with another char then

edit: just did Frozen Maw again, it worked for another char.
(Due to popularity i presume is why it resets approx evry 45 minutes atm!)

Xystus is correct, only one chest per character every 24 hours. I have run several big events with my Ranger, some I just join for fun and only get the rewards one time.

The visual issue I mentioned at the beginning of my post, is just that, visual missing. It appears to be just on the fire elemental in Metrica Provence for my characters. It doesn’t seem to matter which character I bring there, the visual of the chest never shows up even though I have gotten the reward by walking over the area and finding the “[F]” loot function working.

All dragon events and the Maw in Wayfarer’s Foothills chests show up after the fight if I have done enough damage and my character of the moment has not done it within the last 24 hours.

So it appears to me that only the chest in the lab where the fire elemental boss spawns is the culprit.

Just as an FYI, I run almost all the highest settings and there are times i don’t actually see the chest, but get the search option. It’s not to terribly often, but it does happen.

I have recently had this same problem on my Mesmer. However it is the Dragon Chest left by The Shatterer event that I have missed. This has happened to me 3 days of the last 8. It only happens to my mesmer who I tend to do only do that event and perhaps a dungeon or two per day. I do not think that this could be a graphics card issue since the chest appears for my warrior at the same event.
