Rhendak Chest
Are you leaving the map after you get the chest or are you parking your characters and logging in for the chest?
There is a recurring bug related to parked characters where they will eventually get “stuck” with regard to events. The only way to clear the bug is to leave the map (causing you to lose all event status on that map, thus “unsticking” your bugged status).
Sounds more like DR than a ‘bug’ if you park a character at an event.
You can go into wvw map. Then get back. That’ll fix it

I parked my ranger there for 2 weeks until she managed to finally get the required goods for the collection, and I can’t say I had any problem with chest spawning or loot not being awarded; nor did anyone else around me for that matter.
Similar to NTDK, if you click on the crossed swords icon in the top left of the screen, you go to the heart of the mists, and when you leave that area, you’ll be taken back to where you were when you left.

Basically, the key here seems to be that if you leave your character parked inside Rhendak’s dungeon after killing him when you log it, the game seems to think that your character never left and doesn’t refresh the completion credit. To get around this, head to either WvW or PvP and log out there.
Also, if you are farming Rhendak’s Signet, keep in mind that I think only level 80 characters are eligible to even get it as a drop. Lower level characters will only get gear appropriate to their level.
As far as I observed this, you need about 30 minutes between Rhendak kills to get his chest again, which means a pause of 1-2 spawns after a kill. I parked 4 characters at Rhendak (actually: in Heart of the Mists) and returned with a new character every 10 minutes after the last kill:
- 1st character this day: always chest, bonus chest, champion bag
- 2nd char next spawn 10 minutes after #1: no chest, only champion bag
- 3rd char next spawn 10 minutes after #2: no chest, only champion bag
- 4th char next spawn 10 minutes after #3: chest and champion bag
There were times where the 3rd got the chest (and the 4th nothing). That happened if the previous fight was a bit longer and the new spawn was late late due to nobody trying to open the spawning chest.
The day before today I visited Rhendak 3 times with a pause of more than 30 min between kills and every character got the chest.
I can provide you with lots of his chalices by now, but the exotic version of the signet never dropped for me and was pinged only once by someone in 1 week. The same with all other exotic collector items from other bosses. I’m giving it up now with this (and other) collection and wait until the update notes say drop rates of these collector items are raised. Or until prices in the TP are down again, which is probably 1-2 years in the future.
As far as I observed this, you need about 30 minutes between Rhendak kills to get his chest again, which means a pause of 1-2 spawns after a kill.
Good theory, but if it were right, the first character of the day would always get a chest. And a single character parked at Rhendak would never see the problem. Whereas I’ve definitely had chests fail to appear in both cases.
So far, I’ve discovered that I never have the problem if I take my character off and do a world boss between attempts. But in my case that involves doing a lot of other things that could equally have been responsible in resolving the issue (swapping characters, changing zones, logging out in different places and so on).
Personally, I’m still trying to pin this one down to something I have confidence in. Collecting data – if I ever reach a fairly definitive conclusion, I’ll share.
Edit: Numbers on some things are still small, so I’ll hold back from a fuller update for now, but.
1) It’s looking increasingly conclusive at least that the received wisdom is correct, and that running any open world PvE event is enough to stop the chest failing to appear (or alternatively, to clear the problem once it’s present).
2) WvW events do not appear to have the same effect.
3) Simply camping Rhendak has about a 50% failure rate overall (although there’s just the hint of a possibility in my figures that (a) the first account run of the day may have a better strike rate, and that (b) leaving his room and doing other things between character runs may improve that, depending on what they are – but I need more data).
4) The problem can clear spontaneously

Ok, I just confirmed with 3 separate accounts that the going to PvP and back again DOES NOT WORK!!!
Going to try map clearing and see if that works. Caledon Wurm is the daily so I’ll send these 3 accounts to do that event and then come back and let you know the results after I kill Rhendak again.
Ok, did Wurm and came back to Rhendak and killed him. Got the chest on 1 account and not the others. Not sure what that is about.
I also tried zoning to different zones with multiple different toons on multiple different accounts and got the same results. No Chest on certain characters on certain accounts but did get it on other toons that didn’t zone or do other events to complete this.
There is something SERIOUSLY borked with this event.
NOTE to ANet: How do you expect us to complete these achievements Treasure Hunter if the ability to complete them is botched like this? Com’on guys. You put this stuff out there and you expect us to try and complete them and when these events fail like this it’s extremely frustrating. You guys really need to get a grip on these events when they offer something like a reward as Rhendak’s Signet but can’t get it because the event that offers the item(s) is not available because of coding errors or whatever. Please get this fixed. I’m so tired of broken events and things like this when I’m trying to get the achievements. Been playing this game every day since launch and have only missed 6 days total in all that time. I don’t play anything else. 5600+ hours played. I think I have put my time in to be recognized as a dedicated player and should be taken seriously when I say it’s BROKEN!!!
I have gone through numerous different attempts to acquire this ring aside from buying it which I won’t do. It’s not about the money. Gold isn’t an issue for me. Trying to earn the achievement is. And when these events fail like this I get so peeved because of the countless hours and time spent trying to get these achievements done can’t be completed because of the event failure(s).
So I’m asking you guys to please get this fixed. I’m sure there are a lot of new players that when they see things like this they get a lot more discouraged than I do when it fails. Focus on your players grievances. Pay attention to what they say and why they are saying it. I’ll bet 75% of the time from dedicated players like myself, we aren’t kidding when we say it’s broken and needs to be fixed.
Something I was noticing as well was the fact that Rhendak doesn’t reset as an event on the 24 hour basis like other events. Why is this? Numerous and Countless other events that are similar to this event in other zones in the game all reset on a 24 hour basis. Why doesn’t this one?
Back to Rhendak!!!
All the data can be explained by Diminishing Returns, even that posted by Angel:
- Reset is midnight UTC (same as every other 1x/day gate in the game).
- There are multiple types of DR and all would have to reset.
- DR can, seemingly, build up differently on different characters, making it take longer to reset.
The easiest form of DR to observe generally and particularly with Rhendak is Event DR: you get less karma than normal, as well as not getting the ground chest nor the bonus (bouncy) chest. Once that happens, you must do at least one other event. I haven’t done any testing by going into PvP, so I don’t know if that counts.
Sometimes, it takes longer to reset DR and sometimes the ‘reset’ doesn’t last very long. Reliably, I’ve been able to keep one of my characters at Rhendak’s Tomb for 2-3 weeks while another one only lasts 2-3 days tops. In both cases, I can go to WvW to reset DR: for the first, it merely takes killing a caravan or claiming a sentry point (after killing the guard); for the second, it usually takes 2 event involving at least a few kills (either PvE or PvP).
tl;dr @Angel: I’m 99.9999% sure you’re seeing DR and need to reset it.

WvW works fine for me. As long as it is a “combat event”. Simply standing in a ruins will not work but killing a sentry and capping the point does.
Doing a kill → reset → kill on the same character within the same day seems to completely screw things up to the point where it can’t be reset anymore and you have to skip a day.
