Guild Wars 2

Yeah, yeah I suppose you’ll find tons of the exactly same rant post as im making as you’re reading this post, but im just going to make a point of a new player view of this “rollback”.

For about two weeks ago I decided to go buy GuildWars 2. In my two weeks I’ve seen a lot from funny creatures to random glitches/ bugs.

Before I started playing I would of course say to myself that " The game is pretty much still fresh and I should expect this kind of challenge such as bugs, glitches and other types of “contents” which happens in the first months of a new release.

BUT today after the patch update somehow my character got a rollback. The funny thing was that this happened on my way out of a dungeon which I spend AGES completing…

Now, I’m sure many other players also lost their progress or items… But am I supposed to get used to have a inner fear that what I do will mabye be lost because of a techical problem which could happen anywhere…anytime…?

I’m not going to start making foolish posts about reciving my lost items which I’ve spend hours gaining… But rather say that I find this EXTREMELY annoying.

This game is great and it has all my respect, but when things like this happens… Its just shattering and just kills the essence of the game (Thats just my PoV tho.)

To make this clear, I do not hate this game nor do I have anything bad to say about the game. This is just my Point of view as a new player to GuildWars 2.

I know the feeling, same thing happened to me also. First time in Arah path 2, took us 4 hours because of several reasons, members left disconnects etc… but we did it. Exit dungeon and bam…the game kicks me out. And now I find out that I no longer have the tokens and the achievement from this path. Possibly I’ve lost more but these matter to me the most.

Me and my party lost tokens from the Arah path we actually finished before being kicked from the game but I doubt they will give the tokens back, they didn’t when this happened before.

Same here. Just finished Honor of the Waves before the dc, clicked the exit dungeon button, got kicked out of the game, and now I got no tokens.

Some explanation here would be nice.

Chances are they are busy trying to deal with damage control to post about it just yet. It sounds like everyone had a ~30min rollback, give or take, but I highly doubt it was intentional (rollbacks rarely are unless there is a reason for them). Most likely it was an accident and they’re looking into fixing it.

Be warned though that there is a chance it can’t be fixed, and if that’s the case, there really is nothing anyone can do about it – if data from those ~30min was completely lost, then it’s lost and can’t be restored. There’s no way to check if what players claim to have lost is true, there’s no way to bring those 30min back, and so forth. Usually when an issue happens that requires a rollback you’ll use the most recent backup (to prevent all data from being lost) – everything from that backup forward is lost. If it was only a 30min rollback, that’s actually lucky (some rollbacks can span days if backups aren’t done often enough).

I’m not defending ANet here btw, just speaking from the perspective of someone who’s had to deal with data loss in databases before.

I had the same problem and I agree it is extremely annoying – enough to make me reconsider whether I want to play the game at all. I just lost all of my progress from this evening’s playing. Even my rewards for completing the day’s achievements had gone and a difficult event I had completed single handedly was now marked as an unexplored area on my map. I didn’t even get kicked off. I finished playing and logged out normally so how on earth can they lose everything?
What makes it doubly annoying is that the same thing happened to me 2 months ago and I reported it but they don’t seem to have done anything about it.

This is not a new fenomen, it has happen bevore as u said, even in the irt betas… but they just keeps it in silence and hope it will go away. Nothi has ever been done and it has happen frecuently

I can tolerate almost any bug but not this. I just don’t feel like playing the game any more knowing that the first few hours are going to be wasted getting back to where I was before the rollback. I am going to downgrade my 5 star reviews on Amazon and metacritic.
