Just attempted to gather wood from an Orrian Sapling in Cursed Shore, with an Orichalcum Logging Axe; the first “chop” did give me Ancient Wood as it usually does. But the second and third “chop” both gave me Ruined Logs (as you can tell from the chat log).

Before someone comment that I switched logging axe: if I did, it would have shown up as “You receive so-and-so logging axe” in the chat log.

If it matters: this is a respawn of a gather node that I have gathered probably around 16 hours ago.

This happens if you are attacked while gathering in such a way that causes you to draw your main weapon, thus you will be mining with your ‘weapon’ and ruin anything you’re gathering.

I’ve noticed this occurring mostly when I’m being attacked as I gather from a resource node. I’ve been paying attention lately and the only single Ruined Ore I got on my last trip through Orr was the one time I let a mob hit me during my second and third hits on a Mithril node.

I’ve been attacked and not have ruined ore/fiber/wood. So when I got to Orr I did not think anything of it and still usually receive the correct things. I have also gathered from a node, with no enemies nearby, nothing attacking nor have attacked me in a bit, and it occasionally still gives me ruined materials.

Just today I ran up to a risen near a cypress, chopped, and received elder wood. I think it was an acolyte. It is not consistent as to when this happens.

Either way it should still be a bug, since things can attack you that spawn just as you start to mine/gather/chop, if that is indeed a cause of it, but as stated, I’ve personally had it happen when not being attacked.

I have only ever noticed it while using orichalcum or black lion tools, which I save for only the highest tier nodes. Happening with those does make you go o.O
I personally have never noticed it happen with anything else that I can remember, but I could be wrong.
