I just got 2 (note, not 3, but only 2) ruined logs from chopping down an orrian sappling with an orichalcum axe. The other log went into ancient wood log normally. Please one of the usual “ohmygodyoudon’tunderstandhowdifficulttoprogramagameis” guys come here explain me how this is even normal…

This will often happen you harvest while being attacked.

Since when? I’ve farmed hundreds, maybe a thousands of materials, most while being attacked, and this is the first (or maybe the second, could not tell for sure) time it happens to me.
And why? I don’t see anywhere in the game that I have chances of this. I don’t see any way or reason this cannot be considered a bug. It is known? Why not getting fixed?

This is not a bug. It’s working as intended. It’s like this since September at least.
You have a chance to get ruined logs while you are being attacked, it’s not 100%.

A chance? Under 1% then. Since I’ve taken lot of damage while chopping down trees, and never occured to me. Anyway, why would this be intended? Who’s the sick mind that came up with this idea? Are you sure it’s not a bug? Patch noted?

I seem to be always under attack when I collect resources, I never get ruined anything, the only time I get something ruined is if I use say and iron or copper gathering tool,

^See? Was it published in patch notes? Because if not, this is indeed a bug.

If you’re under attack while gathering, sometimes you’ll switch to wielding your weapon as opposed to the proper gathering tool, and that’s when it happens. Bug, working as intended, whichever the case, it can happen. Clear the enemies or use a skill to avoid attacks.

Then it’s obviously a bug, there is no reason you would be chopping down a tree with a rifle just because you got attacked. Arenanet, can you look into this?
