Q:

GM Shasim (Guild Wars 2 Support) suggested I post here instead of constantly emailing him as he can’t fix it.

The problem is that GW2 is regularly blocking the login button while it prompts me to sign up for SMS. I don’t really want to sign up for SMS as it wouldn’t earn my account any extra security, but I’m willing to sign up just to get that dialog to go away. But, I can’t sign up. No SMS message ever arrives.

Most likely this is because I use google voice my phone services. Every company I’ve dealt with refuses to send SMS messages to google, and I presume you are no different. So I can’t sign up for SMS.

BUT YOU KEEP ASKING ME TO SIGN UP. It blocks my login and is really annoying. As I said, I’d sign up if I could, just to make it go away, but it since I can’t, I want you to make it go away. MAKE IT GO AWAY.

You don’t have to use SMS, you could use an autheticator app (google authenticator on a smartphone or tablet, or on your PC via Chrome). You can set that up through the website – from the Services menu at the top of the page, go to My Account, and then Security, then 2-Step Authentication.

If you don’t want to enter the code every time, just tick the box to remember your network the first time you log in using it.

I don’t have a smartphone or a tablet, and I don’t have chrome on my PC, nor will I be installing chrome. The PC only plays GW2 and absolutely nothing else.

I use the Windows Authenticator. I don’t think it relies on any particular browser; I use Firefox, regardless.

I also use the SMS feature on a different account on my land-line. You don’t need a smart-phone to use it; it will happily send voice messages.

As far as I know, you can use Email Authentication, as well….I could be mistaken, but it seems people have posted about it.

Good luck.
