Going into pvp lobby and returning back worked for me.

I just got to this story step 5 mins ago. I flew by him on a rock which was by the vista, across a ravine from his platform. he disappeared when i flew by and suddenly appeared over on his platform. I’ve tried gliding by him several times from different places to no avail. something definitely off.

also….it was night time when this happened, just in case that trigger has anything to do with it.

Update: (30 minutes later)
So, I logged out while posting here earlier. Came back and it was nightfall…again. So I figured I must have spawned in a new instance, because night doesn’t come back THAT fast. lol Long story short, i flew over to him and walked up on his platform and voila…he could talk!

Sylvari Male. still glitched for me as well.

Bugged for me too and a lot of folks in my map… human/female/elementalist

I have this issue too.

Well After changing servers twice leaving my guild and playing on another character for 5-10 min i was able to go back to my main Character and talk to him.

This was bugged for me. My home server is SBI . tried a couple of instances on SBI but that failed. tried guesting on FA which worked. IP on FA that worked was 64.25.38.223. Asuran/male/ele. Hope that helps

Far Shiverpeaks, bugged for many of us too.

Bugged for me as well, I was able to guest to a busier server than Northern Shiverpeaks and get an unbugged instance.

Female Charr Ranger>Druid, Tarnished Coast Server, selected ‘Defend Village’ path. Bugged. Everyone I’ve spoken to that has had issues vary in profession, gender, and race but all chose the ‘defend village’ path.

I also chose the ‘defend village’ path and he’s bugged for me. Female sylvari elementalist, my home server is Maguuma. I tried relogging as well as quitting the story in my story journal and then restarting it.

I’m also stuck and I also chose the ‘Defend the Village’ option. Starting to look like that may be the connecting factor. Female/Norn/Necro.

Nothing worked for me, and I was getting increasing kittened off waiting for two days for a fix, until I saw this and tried it, and it worked!

I’m SAD.. .. I’m stuck on it since yesterday. & cannot advance. I tried everything & even made the mistake to transfer home server instead of guesting.. costing me gems.. ……. sigh…

I sent a ticket so i can get my gems & initial home back. Plz Anet.. HELP!

Sylvari Male , I cant progress my story at all , please help , eager to progress

Still bugged for me. Sylvari/female if it matters. I tried switching instances, switching characters and back, and even restarting GW2.

Same here. Sylvari female chronomancer. Tried guesting, switching, going to PvP and back… Nothing worked.

He was broke for me on SAT. BUT, he was playing some jams on his guitar, so I didnt get too mad. I even sat an listened to him play.

let’s hope its gonna do it! this acan just likes to dance tho.

OK – So after seeing some reports that Acan was moving around (something he shouldn’t be doing) I think I hit upon why he might have broken.

• Changed his team to non combatant so he can’t aggro anything or be harmed by enemies being kited up to the platform (which I also thought should be impossible, but you never know)
• Removed any behaviors he had for resurrecting NPC’s or players (sorry, if you splat next to him, he’s gonna ignore you and serenade your sweet demise).
• Made his interact handler interrupt all behaviors just in case the game thinks he’s doing something I haven’t accounted for.

These changes should be in tomorrow’s hotfix release (we just missed the window for today’s, unfortunately).

So he’s meant to ALWAYS be sitting on that platform? I’ll let you know, when he bugged for me several days ago, he was on that platform playing away, but when I changed maps several times, when he did work for me, it was when he’d wandered off to the back side of that island for some reason. I thought that was intended. So it seems like his location isn’t likely the cause of hikittene-hero obsession.

1) Encountered this bug and tried the logging/switching characters as suggested in this thread; didn’t work for me.

2) A day later, I arrived at Scout Aran using a completely different gliding path (was by accident as I was just exploring and not necessarily trying to do this quest) and was able to talk to the scout and progress with the story. Only difference from the first time was that I landed on top of the platform the scout is standing on (instead of landing just in front of his platform) and came in at a different angle/trajectory that you would normally go on when doing this quest.

Human/Male/Mesmer

Ran into the bug on my Asura female necro. At first gliding past him didn’t trigger anything. I had to glide again by the rocks and then the objective changed to “Speak to Acan” But then I had no dialog prompt to interact. I tried going to EB and logging out and back in. Didn’t work. I guested to Emhry Bay, didn’t work. I went back to home world (JQ) and I got the dialog prompt!

Mine is as well bugged.
It says to talk to him (I’ve already successfully glided over and the event has updated to reflect that) but there is no option to do that. He continues playing his guitar, which leads me to believe the “now he should ONLY check to see if you’re on the “Speak to Scout Acan” step, and talk to you if you are.” is still not working as intended.
I will check again after your fix that’s going to be pushed tomorrow but as mine wasn’t moving or in combat it’d be a miracle if it fixes it! O_O

The fact that a lot of the work arounds have to do with switching instances of the map (logging out/in, swapping servers, etc) makes me wonder if it is related to status of the map. If it helps the current one I am on is Tier 1 like 10% full and 0 participation because it likes to also throw me onto empty maps…

Update: I taxi’d into another instance that also was T1 about same % BUT it was on DAY instead of night.
He finally spoke to me!

Still bugged for me.

Good news, bad news.

Good news: with the sampling of people of all races and genders who’re experiencing this problem, we’ve ruled out the dialog not working for one or two of these combinations.

Bad news: It seems there’s something more sinister at work here. I’ll throw up a flare and see if I can get some coding support to look deeper into this.

Small dev note: We care greatly about your play experience and we are working as quickly as we can to get all of you unstuck. I’ve noticed one thing.

Couldn’t talk to Acan after doing path with Defending the Itzel Village.
Could talk to Acan after doing path with Following Tizlak and pwning Mordrem outside of the Village.

Female Human(Warrior).

Same thing here. No problems when choosing Attack path with Asura Male Necro, couldn’t talk to Scout Acan after choosing Defend path with Norn Male Guardian.

Scout Acan did the teleporting act on me as well after choosing the Defend path.

Also isnt talking to me. Plus, I couldnt hear his playing first time, though once I logged off and back on the sound came back from him.

But he still wont talk to me, logged off and back on several times, switched characters, guested on another world, nothing worked.

Grrr. Pesky bugs. DEV SMASH!!

I’ll poke at this again first thing in the morning, but yeah with it being so inconsistent (I was able to speak with him on my necro this afternoon, along with two other players who were on the same step while I was there), it’s hard to pin down what might be causing him to glitch out like this. One thing that might help – if you’re still stuck, can you perhaps post your race and gender? That’s one of the only things I can think of that would be different between players, since player VO is specific to your character. I think it’s a long shot that would be the cause, and I will make sure to get some code support to see if we can debug this properly in the live environment while it’s failing. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

This worked here female asuran guardian & my friend on sylvari female revenant. type /ip to see if you’re in the same map I was in.

Okay, so I just experienced this bug, as did my girlfriend. After trying logging out, changing characters and guesting, (which oddly didn’t work for me), I got him unstuck by interacting with the wallow point just in front of him first. I don’t have wallows unlocked yet, but my girlfriend does, and she also experienced success after interacting with it, she even used it to travel but that wasn’t necessary for me. Perhaps there is a conflict between the two?

Ok finally managed to talk to Scout Acan. Only thing I did different was completing another story instance with another character.

I think I experienced this but I don’t think it’s a bug. I think it’s common to land near but not close enough.

You have to land quite close to him (I landed on the Nuhock Wallow). Make sure you’re jumping off from that branch opposite, next to the vista. If you land lower down, and need to jump/climb up to him, he doesn’t acknowledge the glide.

My wife and I are both stuck. We went the defense route prior.

I believe this is a crucial piece of information.
I also chose “Defend” on the previous story-mission, and got stuck here.

While another character of my, chose the “Attack” option, and had no problems proceeding.

Please do look into this piece of information.
