im also stuck at it , so the chioce we all have are : wait for bug fix or replay previous story mission and choose the second option, where you dont defend the village…

Hi, im also stuck here. Also did the defend village option first but retried the whole mission, attacked instead but nothing changed. Female Norn Thief.

Same issue as everyone else.

Confirming what kanonsir said, I was talking with someone else and they said they chose the Attack option so it doesn’t look like the bug is exclusive to the Defend choice.

I don’t believe it is relevant, because I chose attack and I’m having the exact same problem.

i didn’t read all 4 pages so dunno if someone mentioned it yet, but i had the same problem with acan until by a stroke of random luck i passed by at night and saw than acan wasn’t sitting in his chair anymore but was standing next to the wooden platform. Went to talk to him and it worked.

so maybe try to go see him next time it’s nighttime… hope this helps

The new patch finally fixed my problem! I just logged in and stood in front of Acan. Then he began to speak.

Bugged for me. Female sylvari necro, chose to defend. I glided over to him from the rock and from the tree, it changed from the green ring to the star over his head and the quest text says to talk to him. He keeps playing music and is not interactable. I tried swapping characters, reloading the game, guesting on another server. Going to try doing a story mission on another character. At this point, it’s just borked.

As an FYI – If you choose to attack with Tizlak the first time, you don’t get sent to Scout Acan. We only track the first choice you make in story missions – replay let’s you choose a different path to experience it, but it doesn’t alter your initial decision so if your first time through you chose to defend with Ibli, that’s the decision that gets recorded on that character.

Except that isn’t true, I chose attack and I got sent to the Scout anyway.

However, I had to step away from my desk for a minute the first time I was running through it, While the NPCs were sitting there Idle it looked like she had chosen for me to do to defend. I didn’t want to do that I wanted to attack so I ended up exiting and reentering to choose attack instead. So did it register that as my choice even though the mission wasn’t even complete?

And if so is that going to fubar the rest of my missions in the future? I really wish they would choose to register your choice when the mission ended in case something like this happens.

I was finally able to get an unbugged Scout Acan by guesting on Fort Aspenwood.

Still bugged for me. Been trying for about 5 days, including re-gliding to the platform and gliding on the platform.

This happened to me a few days ago (Norn Ranger/Druid) I tried 10 times doing all the shifting maps and relogs etc … went off to do some events and an hour later when I came back to it, it worked perfectly.

Confirmed that this worked. Hopefully it helps someone.

This was bugged for me also. I tried guesting to another server, no luck. Guested to yet another server and climed near by rocks and glided (briefly) to him and it worked! So don’t know if it was the gliding or the different server that did the trick…

Trash is still bugged for… 11 days since said fixed

It bugged for me last week, but as many did, was able to solve it by logging out and in again.

It’s a pity, because he’s my favorite minor NPC in the game now, and he’ll probably have his reputation tarnished moving forwards. I think Scout Acan was a superb addition to the game-minus the mission bug of course.

BTW, did not need to re-glide-I re-logged while near him.

I can’t get him to talk to me.
I tried guesting, that didn’t work.

Regarding this bug, i tried what all said and still i can talk the scout to continue my quest.

GM, can you please provide for us how to fix this issue.

I had the same problem, but i fixed it by switching the stories like above!

I tried it today, November 12th, and was a bit hesitant after reading this thread. I landed in front of him and thought, uh oh, but hopped up on his platform (to the side of him) and spoke to him. He kept on strumming but spoke to me! Then he sent me on my way.

I’m stuck on this. This was reported almost one month ago and this is still not resolved. Can you give us a debug build with logging so you can see why it’s failing? At this point you need to do something for those that are still stuck. Like unlocking our elite spec for us or giving us a refund.

Edit: got it working by trying the gliding method over and over again. Could also have been that it just turned to day.

Not only would he not talk to me but when I decided to go do something else, then come back to him, he was gone from the map.

What on earth is up with this ???? Why would he totally disappear from the map?

Well it appears I have to start all over since the silly story bugged out. I had to close the chapter out completely …now I have to start all over again because when you do that, you lose all progress in the chapter.

without passing this journal, i cant unlock the other mastery in hot new map which make me can not play the game at all, so stupid bug

OK the problem is YOU NEED TO FLY TO HIM , NOT WALKING, YOU MUST FLY TO GET HIS ATTENTION TO TALK TO YOU, you can fly from the vista point near to him. This should be mentioned in the mission but not from the last npc , not everyone really look what they are saying.

as of 1/6/2016, the Scout Acan is bugged, he is just sitting there playing his hikittene, i had logged in and logged back in, flew over him from different angles and still nothing. PLEASE FIXES IT!!

I believe I have the solution to this. I tried various ways listed on this forum to get Acan to speak to me, and after switching around on servers and jumping from stupid high peaks (and failing/swearing) for a while I decided to try spamming my glider around him. This worked after a few attempts. It seems there’s a sweet spot you can hit just by gliding for half a second or so around him. Warning; this is one stoned toad. He will likely ignore you for a while. Hope this works for you guys.

I just reported this one today via the in game as well with a screenshot. Maybe the fix is centered around the gliding piece for getting credit – you said there was a tripwire? It’s rather unclear as to where the glide should be, and its important to note that on 2nd playthrus, people will already have Bouncing Mushrooms and Nuhoch Wallows, so the mode of transportation houldn’t even have a check.

Still not fixed, so frustrating. What i suppose to do now?

Edit: Sorted, after countless relogs, guest logins.. That wasn’t nice experience BTW

This still did not work for me. This is my third character that got stuck here. I logged out, changed characters and guested. Suggestions?

This is a great workaround – thank you!! Worked for me first try.

I went on the low rocks behind him to the left (when facing his face) and glided over and it worked. Just jump around and spam your glider over to him, it will work eventually.

So, this isn’t actually a bug. You literally just have to glide over to him. Jumping from the platform and gliding back should trigger it. You have to literally follow what the guide says to do for it to work. lol

Still experiencing this bug.

Although, what Parris says is right, not being able to trigger the quest from other routes would be considered a bug.
